Question Does My Rex Hate Me... or Just have a sick sense of humour?

Note: I have a 86 GXL with an apparent sick sense of humour:

Today, during my lunch break, i pulled out of the parking lot, the rxx was runnin fine. I pulled out onto the street, and had about 3 miles down this congested road to get where i needed to be... it started okay, but then it suddenly seemed to choke! It started sputtering, and the idle kept dropping really low (it would stall if i let off the gas). The acceleration seemed like it was using half the engine. At this point, the check oil light came on, it's been less than 2k since my last oil change, but still, i wanted to check on this immediatly, but i was in the middle of a crowded street with a car that wanted to die. Here's where it gets funny (or twisted, or funny in a sick way)... The car appears to have a gutted cat, no real "mufflers" to speak of, so it's decently loud, bright red, etc (you get the idea)..

On this street, the traffic was slow because there's a church that a funeral procession was pulling out of... the nice person with a flag was stopping traffic so they could get away from the curb... so here's me, sitting in my red sports car, in front of a bunch of people coming out of a funeral to get into their cars and i had to keep revving the engine!! I felt like an ***!!

I managed to limp the extra mile to a gas station, check the oil.. it appears low, and very thin, it had a slight smell of gas to it.. so i bought/added some oil to it, and started ti back up.. it took about a minute to convince it to turn over, and it did the same thing... now, i pulled out onto the main street (determined to limp it home), and i floored it, like i said above, it had barely any pickup... it slowly accelorated, but when the tach hit about 5k, or 55, it seemed to cough, like it was burning something out, and ZOOOM, off it went, like nothing was ever wrong, it was fine for the rest of the day, includeing the drive home..

now, sorry about the novel, but i thought i was sorta funny, but i also want to know what happened? any good ideas? One of my friends suggested that maybe it was moisture, it POURED here, but it was fine for the trip to work (~20 min), and fine until i pulled out into the street? Any good ideas? Thanks!

Yeah, that'll do it. have you had a problem since then? How many miles on your car and do you ever run injector cleaner or had your fuel system cleaned? When was the fuel filter replaced?

rx7 - Nope, it drove fine after it "coughed it up", and it ran fine on the way hoem.. I haven't dumped the injector cleaner in it yet (i'll do it one of these days soon! ), and no i've never had the fuel system clean.. i've only had the car drivable for ~2 months.. the car has on the odometer ~213k, i don't know the history, i picked it up for 200 bucks as a project car, but then my eclipses' clutch died and it moved from project to primary until i get my clutch fixed (hopefully finished this weekend)...

Felix - Yes, i have flooded it once before, i believe... that is... Eitehr way, to get it started this time i used the nice cut-off switch i installed last time i had troubles to make sure that i didn't flood it

Hmm...you could definately use a thorough injector cleaning but running over the counter stuff won't cut it. You could try the Chevron one though, it is the strongest one on the market.

It was probably the spirit of the funeral participant getting you to slow down for one last look at the cool, cherry red RX7 before his/her trip to the "other side".

Or not.

the other day i drove through a big deep puddle. as i was coming out of it my power dropped, i couldnt rev past 2000 rpms and the engine was sputtering. i pulled over and popped the hood. nothing was steaming or flapping around... the engine was just shaking violently. i looked around some more and then all of a sudden "sputter poop sputter sputter hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" it was fine again all of a sudden. either the spark plugs got wet or something, or it got some water and soaked the filter, and needed to dry.

It was flooded, I was shittin a brick this past weekend cuase I thought I popped my motor. Was doin the same thing that yours was doin. After hours of tryin to figure out what was wrong with it I just held it to the floor and it cleared right out. Its fine now. I bet your car was revving real slow right......like on 1 rotor?
