Well this was from my parts car. I still have my(87 sport) working. I plan on re-building this one and doing some porting on it. Me and James(wankel7) will hopefully tackel this during summer or early next fall. Financial aid. We still need to see if the rear rotor is ok though. The big nut at the back is going to be tough to get off. The rear half of the engine is still stuck together. I hope that the rear rotor is ok also so I don't have to get another housing and rotor all we can do is hope. Man I feel like I just lost my virginity or somethin. lol

Yeah I just need to find someone to take the damned nut off of the back. James says we should look for a truck shop cuz they have large sockest since all the stuff on trucks is huge. The only thing that was messed up was that James bled a lot lol he got a nice cut from my GXL and bled on some stuff( cold start bottle, fender, intake, studs, etc.) He is ok though. I got a small cut but nothing like his. Anglos bleed a lot. lol

I belive its a 2 and 1/8"socket..or like a 56 mm or 54, then get a 5/8th's impact and it should come off very easly....if you want some TII part went rebuilding the motor I gotem...https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=171642

Well the front part of the engine is apart not the back. lol Only the front cover, front housing rotor housine and the front rotor are off. I don't exactly understand what you mean about the tension bolts.

It musta been an automatic, allowing him to access the tension bolts from around the couterweight. It's the only explanation, unless they just took a wrench and loosened all the tension bolts enough to clear the front iron without actually removing the flywheel.

Hmmm, loosening tension bolts under a flywheel still mounted . . . just to disassemble half an engine. I think they were just bored and curious or something.

I would recommend buying the flywheel nut wrench from racing beat or mazdatrix. It costs about the same as the socket but you don't need to buy an extra breaker bar or impact wrench. It is like a 54mm socket welded to an iron bar.

yeah the 88 was an auto. the flex plate came off without the big nut comming off. I am using the front rotor and housing for a project at my uninversity. After that I am going to take the whole thing apart and see what went wrong with it. I think it just got carbon locked and the guy that owned it before me took it to some idiot mechanic that didn't know **** that he started taking everything apart and ruined the engine. I plan to re-build it after that if all the parts are ok.

You know, there is a proper order to disassembling an engine for a reason....
