Shaving a flywheel???
Shaving a flywheel???
Has any one herd about shaving the counterweight on a stock flywheel down a bit to make it fit?
Well I have a 13bre going into my FC and unfortunately I have to use my n/a drivetrain for a event coming up in june, and my car has to drive. Well in a nutshell, I tried to bolt on my n/a fly to the re motor and when it was torqued down it touches the back of the iron in one spot. I was thinking I could shave off about 1/8th or so on a mill to make it fit? If not less. Would this cause unnessary vibration, or not so much to notice or cause problems? If this is not going to work then I guess I will have to buy a aftermarket fly and bolt that to the auto CW..Thanks fellas

This doesn't sound like a good idea at all, as in bad for your whole car and possibly hazardous. You need a either a flywheel with the proper amount of counterweight built into it or a balanced flywheel and the appropriate counterweight in addition to it.
I shouldnt of even asked,lol.. I always get ahead of myself, when i should just think it befor I do it..
I need to get the motor in so I can start all the little things to get her running. You know of anyone selling a n/a lightweight fly for cheap?

I'm not sure what to tell you. I don't know much specifics on these, but if you have a 13BRE in there you might have a tough time finding a flywheel that will match up with your clutch and still balance the motor right. Give it some time, someone might know what you can do.
Well i talked to chris at Bonzai and he said the the aftermarket will fit, either n/a or t2 or even a fd unit. You just have to use the tranny that goes with the flywheel. I wish I had a t2 tranny and the driveshaft to mate to the n/a rear diff so I can use my t2 fly?(I hate money)lol...
It is never a good idea to machine the stock flywheel.
This is an old trick to get lighter flywheels for cheap, but you risk the modified flywheel failing and cutting your legs off when it lets go!
