shaking at idle
shaking at idle
so my car started shaking abput two weeks ago when I'm at a stop sometimes. I can really feel it in the shifter and if I take off my hand, I can see the shifter shaking, it's like a hand massage.
and it's not because of low idle, I'm idling between 8-900. Also, it only does it sometimes, sometimes, I go all day and it never shakes, but sometimes, it'll shake all day, or on and off during the day.
Anyone had this happen before?

my money is on the motor mounts, i need new ones, and new tranny mount and diff mounts. These cars are old and need new rubber almost always, unless the previous owner did it recently (with in the last 5 years).

my parts car is an automatic and was doing the same thing. under the hood I noticed the port actuation line from the cats was shaking like a *****!
I figured my cat was clogged since this car's gas tank had been sugared and at least in piston cars, sugar in the lines will clog cats too among other things. also, make sure you check the egr system as a faulty one will dump too much exhaust gas in your intake especially when it shouldn't dump at all. good luck ~rich

crappy plugs eh? I assumed the car was routinely maintained and in good shape before the problem started which is why I went for something as extreme as the cats. Try changing or cleaning your plugs first. Poor spark on an engine that normally runs rich is a bad thing and will make it perform poorly. Check your plug wires too - old, dried wires that no longer insulate properly can ground out and cause the same problems you describe or even worse.
Also, the increased electrical resistance from increasingly larger spark gaps that occur as plugs erode may / will damage coils too over time. ~rich

wires are new Accel's. plugs were dirty but I cleaned them and put them back in in December when I was checking compression. I'll get new ones Friday when I get paid.
is it a problem?
I haven't been able to drive my car for a week now because of a flat tire and isolation from basically anywhere due to snow/ice/lack of transportation and money. But I think my car has done that as well. Is it a problem if this happens? Is it something that needs to be replaced as soon as possible? Or is it something you can let slide until you have the means of taking care of it?
Thanks
