Setting TPS

I read fc3spro's writeup on TPS adjustment and it said 1k ohms at no throttle.... I was reading 3.98 on mine... Would the car even run at that setting? I was getting 4.53k ohms at WOT. The car idle like a mild street port (because it is a mild/large street) and seems to run 100% fine. Even all the way through the RPMs its good.

Video of my car warmed up and idling.

Water thermowax was/is holding the throtttle linkage open. The throttle linkage i.e. waterthermowax must be fully HOT before setting the TPS.

ON a properly set TPS, the reading might very well be in the three volt range if the engine is cold, but once it fully heats up the reading should return to where it was set initially with the hot engine.

Yes, cars start cold with a TPS output of three volts and up. Normal as can be.

The engine must be fully HOT when checking the output of the TPS. The temperature is realated to the water thermowax device that MOVES the throttle linkage open a bit when the engine is cold but closes the linkage once the water thermowax heats up . TPS must be set with the throttle linkage fully closed.

If you have a SAFC, the TPS reading can be seen on the SAFC screen and you can adjust the TPS looking at that screen. I believe on a SAFC the reading would be 0 for a properly set TPS. As in 0 percent, not vdc. Again, with a hot engine. If the engine cold and you look at it, the reading will be much higher. Normal thing, 'cause the water thermowax will move the linkage away from the TPS plunger and the TPS output will rise above 0 percent.

It's been a while since I've seen a SAFC. I believe that to be true. On a RTEK 2.0 on the other hand, the reading would be 20% at idle, what with 1vdc being 20% of a full value of 5vdc. Whatever.

If memory serves, the SAFC also has a screeen that you can see the voltage output of the TPS.

The SAFC reads like 85% when cold and 100 percent when hot.

WTF.

My omp attachment on the throttle body was stuck wide open. I pushed it down and now the SAFC reads 15%. WTF is going on. My TPS reads 1.1k ohms now and it was warmed up. But with the omp bar like it was it was reading 3.5k ohms when hot.

I ended up flooding it so now it wont start. Im just gunna wait an hour or 2 and try it again.

So just find out what is putting the OMP rod in a bind and unbind it.

Anything that will move the throttle linkage..........will effect the output of the TPS. Anytime the plunger of the TPS moves......the output moves also.

The TPS needs to be set with a fully hot engine and with the primary throttle plate fully closed.

The output of a series four or five TPS can be found in the CONTROL UNIT pages of the FSM.
