Is this server slow?
Is this forum on a slow server or is it just me? I got a good cable connection, but this site is sooooo slow for me. I bet I am getting a bad hop to it. Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
I blame the other car club on this server - supraforum.com.
They've recently upgraded the server because of high cpu utilization (not an overtaxed T1 to whoever's house). Probably just going through growing pains of changing a PRODUCTION SERVER and not having a fallback one while they're doing it.
You try spinning & juggling plates at the same time

The new server is not up yet. It is configured and ready to go, but BOOSTD7 needs to get off his lazy *** and hook it up.

Actually, it's been shown time and time again that IIS 5 on a Win2K machine can serve static pages faster than Apache 1.3 on a Linux 2.4 kernel machine. Win2K is a great OS, it's done an excellent job for us for the last 2 years.
That being said, the new box is Linux 2.4.7 kernel with Apache 1.3.22
Of course having dual cpu, twice as much ram, SCSI RAID instead of IDE hard drives, won't hurt.
Trust me, it'll be MUCH faster. Right now I just recompiled and installed PHP 4.1 and Apache 1.3.22 on the new server. It's about 95% done!

Yes!!!!! on off my christmas presents being answered:p
who said anything about a linux kernel. BSD run generated pages faster than linux does.
BSD is what the Convex/HP super comptuers run on.
also these pages are not static at lease 95% of this site runs dynamic.
adding dual proceeser is a big help, as I can sure understand that.
as one of my customer during the halloween season we had to use
3 dual P3 1000, 2gig ram round robin web server
1 dual p3 1000, 2gig ram mysql server.
just to keep up with the traffic now they are back down to using 1 server again to hold their website and DB.
also make sure you install php as mod_php for apache it will run faster than just a compiled ver of php.
