serious help time :(

ok its NOT the clutch (act in there now)
its NOT a clogged exhaust (disconnected y-pipe and ran like that for a test)

WHY DO I HAVE NO POWER? compression is good, 3k on rebuild... not eating coolant or oil... idle is dead on 750...

hit the gas in 1st gear? ZOOM the rpms fly up (engine sounds just like it should) only the car barely moves

same in 2nd and third, 4th and 5th are just dead, if im going 40+ 4th gear is ok, just no power, rpms dont move up, just steady, no speed either.

wtf? fuel filter? plugs? timing? wires? i also have a slight miss in there somewhere, at idle once in a (random) while it will pop a little bit, not a backfire, just a little sputter

im stumped. completely stumped.

oh yea, gutted the cats (after this problem started, thought it was clogged)

s5 n/a

can anyone help?

If RPMs go up and your car doesn't go forward, Sounds like your transmission?

Dead tranny it sounds, if 4th gear is the only one that moves fine its because the layshaft main gear is stripped and 4th is a direct drive gear.

You should be able to get the car rolling with a bit of effort in 4th gear if its the layshaft.

i think he is referring to a lack of power not a power output issue, you checked your leading and trailing's for spark?

does the clutch engage at the top of the pedal? maybe it needs adjustment.

well, just a chance, but a friend of mine had a similar problem. revs would be fair-ok in gear, but if you punched it in gear they would shoot up like a torqueconverter unlocked or a really really bad slipping clutch. ended up being a stripped spline shaft going into the tranny. might want to check it, i suppose it could also be splines comming out of the tranny or in the rear end(or wherever else splines are used)

I doubt the ACT would be slipping since its brand new, the clutch slave cylinder could possibly be messed up not letting it retract all the way, thats the only other possibility i can think of besides the tranny.....

BTW i know this is a shot in the dark but how long ago was this clutch put in? If it was recently someone may have left the key out of the flywheel. Just a thought.

it could easily be slipping, if a machinist didn't machine the flywheel properly or if the slave cylinder was misinstalled or is binding or if there is a hydraulic issue causing the clutch to be held out or if the rod is misadjusted, etc, etc, etc.

I have had a problem very similar to this. I could only move the car in 4th gear... Everything else was like nuetral. I took out the tranny and took it to a shop. The gearbox was completly melted, except for the 4th gear. Hope this helps.... (Its your tranny)

welp 4th is a direct gear so it does sound reasonable, the only way to take out 4th is to shear the input or output shaft.

i would probably suggest checking your transmission oil for metal particles or chunks.
