my throttle body mod:D

so i had some nuts and bolts just laying around and decided to put them to use. they were a pretty snug fit and i used plenty of thread lock. i also used some rubber gromments on the outside.

better than jb weld, right?

Wow, those are HUGE. Talk about stickin out in the air path! Why didn't you juse tap it and use some plugs? Much easier, and no big bolts!

yeah, i know. i was feeling a little lazy today. i was just gonna have someone tap it but i said what the hell and tried something new.

i figured it would flow just the same if i would have left the WHOLE rod in there.

JB weld would hold to 14psi on a hybrid. My 6port turbo's is JB welded (previous owner), and it holds 19psi on my stage3 just fine. Although I do prefer plugs tho.

i used a standard bolt just barely larger than the secondary throttle plate holes and i taped the threads for the bolt. I put it in and grinded it down smooth to the throttle body and it looks like there wasnt a bolt there to begin with.

it's not that jb weld is bad... i just wouldn't trust it on a modded car. if it was n/a, i wouldn't hesitate to use it.

You know the best solution to those holes is to just weld them shut, I'm not comfortable leaving jb weld in a place like that with a pretty clear path to the engine ports, but theoretically it should be fine. Just too much potential for catastrophy for my liking.

Oh god, PLEASE tap and install a proper plug. Or at the very least, use RED LOCTITE on the nut. I can just see that loosening up in about a week and....

JB Weld will hold gobs more than that pressure. A substance like that can be drilled, tapped, etc. It's extremely strong. The way I use it is to cover the threads around a 1/8" NPT brass plug then hammer them in to the sleeves on either side of the TB where the shaft was. I've been using JBWeld on my throttle body for seven years and it's never come out or blown out, etc. It's extremely reliable. I had a car on the dyno that hit 30psi with a TB that I'd done with this same JB Weld method. Nothing ever happened. You guys using JB Weld have nothing to worry about.

Nope... what you've done there is to create a giant airflow restriction within the t-body, which is contrary to what you are trying to do in the first place....... JB weld isn't the best idea either... BUT, when done right, it will hold up to 25+ Lbs of boost (as noted on Zkellers 3rd gen).

The best option is to tap the hole and add a plug then grind it off flush with the surface as in this guys TB.. which is how I mod all my TB's
(decent port job, but needs finished (more sanding and polishing, get a 1.5 inch felt bob, some black rouge and a die grinder dude.. then maybe hit it with red and white if you want it to look pretty!!!!)

Some guys also weld plugs over the holes, but then you are left with a void space inside the t/b, which causes turbulence in the airflow (however, much less than that bolt sticking out. )

Don/t think I'm being a ***** here, I'm not.. I admire your inginuity.. but there is no sense trying to gain some airflow by removing one restriction, while creating another.

Yes very nice, Magnum steel is also very good for that same purpose. I like to leave a little over hang on the out side of the throttle body I dont really know why but that will totally flow better than the bolt thing. and even if you were to use the bolt you should tap it so you would not have to use a nut.
