sensor near back of intake manifold?

'88 N/A...

OK, so I've searched through the FSM and parts catalog a few times and can't seem to figure out what this sensor is. It's located either on the lower intake manifold or on the housing (can't tell). It's not the O2 sensor. It's above the 02 sensor and is at the back of the intake manifold (between the LIM and the housing).

Is there an electrical plug on this item? Have you looked in the FSM for your year/model car?

Yes, there's (what's left of) a connector on it. and a burned up wire (from my dampener fire). I know I'm not giving you much to go on since I haven't pulled the part. I took a break due to the holidays, and have pretty much got all the parts off that I need to replace, except this one. I also can't see where the wire would have gone, but probably burned off my harness somewhere underneath the throttle body. I've attached a diagram and pointed to the area where it is. Since it's not shown on this diagram, I'm thinking it is located on the housing instead of the manifold.

I also attached a pic, but it came out fairly blurry (autofocused on the bolt).

Got me. I've a non turbo 86, and don't remember any sensor back there. There is one wire back there. It's a ground cable b/t the engine and a blade connector near the wiper motor. NOT a real electrical wire in a sense. Just a gnd wire/cable that mates the chassis to the engine/transmission.

JPG shows how the 02 cable is routed under the upper intake. NOT my engine. Just stole the jpg off this site.

That picture makes no sense. I can't make heads or tails of it.

check the wire for your o2 sensor, that may be the plug that youro2 sensor plugs into. it may have fused to the block. thats reallythe only thing back there

hmmm. that could be. My O2 sensor has been disconnected for a while, I think. Sorry for the lack of detail, but I just took a couple of pics, headed into the house and haven't been back to the garage. Been spending time looking through the FSM and parts catalog and couldn't see a thing.

In fact, I haven't even tried to just grab it and see if it's just dangling. I've been so focused on the fuel/vacuum lines. It may be a loose connecter that's just melted to the block/LIM and appears to be a sensor. If I get time later today, I'll see if that's what it is and if not, I'll try to get a better pic. Best angle would be for me to stand on top of the engine and shoot down on on it

Thanks for the suggestion.

Dreyko wins! It was the O2 connector. it was burned/melted beyond recognition and wedged/fused between the LIM and housing. I grabbed hold and tried to move it around. It didn't give much, so I was a little reluctant, thinking it was still some sensor.

Then I took Dreyko's advice and followed the wire up from my O2 sensor, and it suspiciously routed to the same spot. So I twisted/tugged a bit more and it came loose. (see pic. Moved it out for a better shot).

Guess that explains why the FSM didn't show anything located there!
