"Security" light

On my 88 GTU, there is a security light when i lock the door from inside it turns on. What is this, is it like a factory alarm system or what?

He probably did not know if it came straight out of the factory or if it were an aftermarket type... Give people some room...

Sure...

But when asking "there is a security light when i lock the door from inside it turns on. What is this, is it like a factory alarm system or what?" that to me promotes the onset of wtf, are you serious? That sounds plausible but not feasible. You know what I mean jelly bean?

Mine security stystem in my 88 GTU is a joke, it is the factory one and if you lock the doors and turn it on and all that then pull it from the out side nothing happens, but if your a retarded criminal and you lock your self in the car and then pull the door handle fromt the inside it goes off. Is mine just messed up or is it supposed to be like this.

Not quite following you here...

The alarm shouldn't go off if you try and use the exterior door handle.

It should only disarm from the key being used in the door.

But it should trigger/go off if someone slim jims the door and the interior lock unlocks or they break the window and reach in and unlock the car from inside.

Or if you open the hood, hatch/trunk/ or doors.

The factory system doesn't, although the 10thAE did have ultrasonic sensors to detect movement inside the car.

yeah...it's great. i wondered what those sensors were too until the previous owner told me they were some motion sensor alarm system. so even if someone breaks the glass it will go off.

No, they are to detect movement in the car, not an impact or glass breakage.

my 10th AE doesn't have them.

Maybe it's just a USDM thing, because the other 10AE that I've been in didn't have them either. ?

well I have only seen a half dozen of the 1500, so I am sure it is possible that since it was an option that not all of them came with them.

Also it may be that Canada's version of the FCC (Federal Communications department that regulates radio and other wireless freqs) didn't allow them in Canada.

from what I have learned about the Security Light, has mostly been said above, the 'alarm will trigger when some one unlocks your locked car from the inside, pry's up your hood or hatch or breaks a window. In addition it is supposed to shut off your ignition.

AS stated in the owners manual: The theft-deterrent system is designed to prevent your vehicle or its contents from being stolen when all the doors, the hood, and the hatch are locked. If any attempt is made to forcibly open any of these with out the key, the system causes the horn to sound and the hazard warning lights to flash. In addition to this the starter become inoperable.

I installed the motion sensor (it was a dealer available part) from Mazda into my Vert. I basically have forgotten about it all these years because it was just a vibration sensor that I could never get tuned just right; either it would go off when a slight wind blew, or I had to bump the car hard to trigger it.

It is still there, I guess on duty, but will probably only be useful if someone jacked up the car. Maybe I will try to trigger it tomorrow and see what happens.

yeah the motion sensor was a dealer available option, however that was different than the Ultrasonic sensor that the 10thAE had as a an option.

If you do accidentally set it off, just put the key in the door and turn.

well just so you guys know don't count on your factory
alarm to be anything great, I know that if people can
still get into your car with that alarm set. basically the only thing the standard alarm will protect against is unlocking from the inside and forcing the hood or hatch
open. so don't feel too safe with that POS alarm.
