secondaries not firing.... help
Ok, I'm trying to figure out why my secondaries aren't firing. All I have w/ me is this crappy haynes manual to help me w/ this. I have checked the grounds, crank angle sensor, EGI fuse, & main relay & all seem fine but after doing some searching, I found out that there could be a problem w/ my variable resistor, or as the manual states "solenoid resistor". My problem is that the pics in the book are nothing like what I have under the hood
.
This is what I have which I think is the resistor:

This is what the manual shows:

Could anyone tell me if I'm on the right track, or what the resistence should be between the terminals? There are only three wires & the manual says theres five.....
Oh, and another thing, i checked my boost/pressure sensor and it read 2.** ohms under 3.9hg. The book says something like 3-5 ohms.... is my sensor still good?

Huh, that's weird because I looked all over the place for that resistor pack & found nothing... maybe the previous owner eliminated it. Is that possible? The reason for asking if the first pic was it, is cause I searched for one on ebay & it was titled variable resistor w/ that pic on the description lol.
Your year car does not have a solenoid resistor package. We had to HUNT to find out the year of your car.
You don't ohm out the boost/[pressure sensor to find out if it works. You look at the voltage output.
The factory service manual for your car can be found in the FAQ thread on this site.
That's the variable resistor in your first picture. It only functions for idle and has zip to do with much anything else.
Download the FUEL AND EMISSIONS section of the online factory service manual. Go to the page called CONTROL UNIT. Check each pin on the ECU per that section..Control Unit.

did you try having your secondaries cleaned. I use to hit a wall at 4k and then i sent the secondaries to witch hunter to be cleaned and now everything works fine. Then even gave me a read out of how they were preforming b4 the cleanning, one wasnt even working and the other was only working at 33% capasity. I would try that before you start rewiring the ecu, but cleaning the grounds will help too.
