Hard THUMP Under Brakes

Hey, everyone.

I've recently noticed a harsh THUMP/THUD that doesn't sound as loud as it does hard. It comes when i'm medium to hard braking, and it sounds like its coming from the front drivers side. It only happens just as i'm coming to a complete stop. I'm just a bit worried about it, it doesn't sound healthy.

Thanks everyone.

motor/tranny mounts maybe? You sure its coming from the front drivers side?

Have a friend stand outside the car and listen for it as you stop next to him.

Lots of things that it could be ...

I had something similar once when my swaybar bushings were shot. Start by making sure your brake calipers and pads are mounted tight and secured as they should be. If they are then hopefully whatever it is won't kill you Check end-links, bushings throughout the front end ... and as other guys said, motor mount and that everything under the hood is secured.

Its funny you should mention the tranny mounts.. Ive been thinking they were shot for a while. When I'm in 4th gear (and 4th only) when i'm at lower (below 4k RPMs) the tranny makes a 90% shaking/ 10% grinding noise. It makes me think that the mounts may be weak.. I hope thats not the case because I'm so poor, and have NO CLUE as to how to replace/strengthen them.

My break pads are very worn down... maybe thats the problem hopefully?

I would jack up your car and take a good look under to see if any mounts look bad. (after you check your batter).

http://mazdatrix.com/g3.htm

mounts from mazdatrix look to be about 120-130ish for all 3.
