SEARCHED NEED HELP.....current draw when car is off!
I have spent most of the day trying to fix a short. My current draw right now is .345 volts. I have .0 something on all fuses except BTN. It seems to be the source. It is very wierd, If I leave the car over night the battery discharges down to 11.50 volts. The car will turn over rather slow, but it isnt enough to fire up. I am looking for the specs for the amparage draw on the fuses in the main block. What fuse draws what amps? Or if you know the total draw that would be helpful too. Thanks for any help.

My retractor fuse has been pulled for awhile, the battery is an off brand, but I can leave the - cable off the car and it will start up normal, I can even leave the cable connected for awhile and it will be ok. I left it off for about an 1 hour and a half and the meter reading was the same. I honestly thinkthere is something drawing power. Thanks for all the replies. BTW I have a red top Optima that took a crap in my S10 and it is less that 2 years old, WTF?

Amperes, right?
I try to shoot under 300mA or 0.300A.
Yours is close.
You got an alarm in the car?
That would do it.
Anything over 0.500A, I would worry.
BTW, what kinda battery are you running?
You might want to change it if it's a couple years old.
If it's a crappy brand, then it'll discharge quick.
I used to run a Costco one that was pretty good for the price.
When I killed it accidently, I got a Checkers "Medalist" (cheapest one), and that bitch can't hold a charge for crap!
I have an aftermarket alarm in the car, and the Checkers POS would go under 10.0VDC in a couple days sitting; the Costco battery would hold for at least a week sitting.

My alarm has been a bit quirky lately and now the battery is draining over night. How can I check current draw on the battery? Are there any reccomendations as far as fixing a large draw on BTN if I find that to be the case?

If your volt meter has the ability to check amperage, put the positive lead in the socket for, say 10a.
Pull the negative lead off the battery. Clamp the positive lead to the cable you took off and put the negative lead to the negative battery post and read the amperage on the meter, whatever that position is on the dial.
I think I read 9ma the last time I did that. Everything turned off and the doors closed and key out of the ignition (superstitious sp).

Small error in the above. I just checked my car and it's 19ma with everything off and if you turn the side lights on it's 5.86amps. It's possible that I did this check on my other car and got a different figure than what I just now read.
EDIT: The 19ma drops to 12ma if the BTN fuse is pulled.
EDIT: I then pulled the small plug off the ECU. It stayed at 12ma, so I guess I was wrong about the ECU sucking anything up.

All cars will have a small draw off the battery,Optima red tops had problems a couple years ago and had problems keeping there charge. The problem with optimas also is you may think you charged them but it takes 2 optima batteries to really charge one correctly, most people charge them and think there ok when all they are doing is putting a surface charge on and it will not hold.Red tops are pieces of **** anyway,if you are running anything extra like car audio.Yellow tops never had the problem.I had 2 redtops that wuold not hold a charge for ****,untill finaly I found out from optima about the issue
