So I need to install the front pulleys before I can set the timing?

The bolt pattern is not symmetrical and should only line up one way, correctly. This applies to FC 13Bs, I'm not sure if the GSL-SE is different. It is likely the same though.

My pulleys, can be turned fully around where it bolts. This is what i am trying to figure out. If I bolt it up wrong i won't be able to set the timing correctly.

Alright I got everything back together. I'm going to get oil and other fluids, then give it a test start.

If it doesn't start, make SURE it's not 360deg out (the CAS with respect to the crank that is).. ie, on the 'wrong' TDC

Happened to me, didn't pick it for ages...

Woohoo!!! I got it started, but I think the timing is a bit off yet. When I first started turning it over, it would turn a couple times and then sound like it prefired. but it did eventually start and idle.

And once it was running a bit, it started leaking coolant from what looked like the weep hole of the water pump. yet another problem.

I'll have to get to the leak and the timing tomorrow. It's like 3:30am here, and I want a cold beer.

I'll be on here for a bit if anyone has any siggestions for the timing.

put a timing light on it and time it...not much too it. Also did you take your Water pump complelty off from the housing? because it may just be where the housing mates up to the front iron. Alot of silicone should do the trick. The FSM should tell you exactly where to time it at, best of luck man.

I didn't remove the pump from the housing. the water pump housing to the front cover would be the only possible leaky seal area, but i used quite a bit of rtv on that.

I don't have a timing light, are there any other ways?

i would pull the housing off again, pull the studs out too and clean up that area with a wire brush, make sure its nice and clean on both surfaces. I had the same problem and that fixed it.

do what i do, go to auto zone buy it, go home use it go back to auto zone and return it, i also did it with a compression checker, the great excuse that never fails " i have a rotary and it didnt work" but you have the money to spend on a timing light buy it cause its a good investment

good luck

You could do what i did and just play with it for a few an hour or so until you think it's right.
