But I am still trying to figure out where my coolant is going.....maybe someone can give me some ideas.
When I start the car and it's cold, I fill the radiator back up, and when I rev the engine up the coolant level goes down , and I get lil bubbles that carry some rusty **** with them. I'm worried that this is a leak between the combustion area and the coolant chamber.
This is what my radiator cap looks like after driving the car a little while and loosing coolant.

And say there is a crack in the rotor housing, has anyone had any luck using some form of aluminum block sealant in the coolant to fix the problem?

I've had some success using it in PISTON ENGINES, never tried it in a rotary. I would say no, just because if it is going into the rotor housing, you just got a one way trip to an expensive rebuild.

exactly. if you rev it and see bubbles, thats bad times.

I just wanna make this engine last until I can save up for a replacement, being this is my only car.
Do I have any options at this point to minimize the problem?

Man, you guys are still goin at it, lol...

Small bubbles may just be cavitation bubbles from the water pump. Doesn't rule out a small crack or pinhole on a housing, though. Are you getting any smoke at all? Or wet plugs?

Gotta remember, if that freeze plug was bad enough to corrode through, then the rest of your internals took a beating. Obviously a PO didn't take care of her. I'd hate to see what your aluminum rotor housings look like in the water passages...Don't even mess with the "seal-a-leak" crap unless absolutely necessary. That gunk likes to plug up more small passages than just the ones you're trying to fix...

Start saving, 'cause your gonna need it. It may be just a pinhole now, but it'll get progressively worse. Not trying to bum you out, lol, just stating the facts...

That cap looks pretty trashed out, too, is any coolant getting by it with it on?

Yeah the cap looks bad, but I've checked it several times and I can't see anything getting by it.
I haven't checked the plugs to see if they're getting wet.
The car starts fine when it's cold, but once it's at op temp, it has a hard time starting if I turn it off and immediately try to restart it.

That's the typical rotary hot-start issues, generally caused by leaky injectors/low compression.

Or keep her running as long as you can while you save up the parts for the rebuild

I hate to say it, but new rotor housings are probably in your future, too. Aluminum gets "ate up" much faster than steel when the coolant system is not cared for properly...

Have you cleaned the ground contacts yet or taken care of the lower radiator hose? Also, when you change your spark plugs change the wires as well.

yeah, I've cleaned the grounds, and replaced both upper and lower rad hoses. haven't saved up the money for the plugs and wires yet.

I have an 86 n/a parts car with an engine that needs work, I was thinking about pulling that one and rebuilding it to put into my 88 n/a. That way I can still drive this one and slowly work on the other engine.
I am so broke, I have been out of work now for over 2 months. Haven't been able to go back being the last job I was doing was just delivering pizza....he he.

Hey Jacob, do you know of any decent places hiring around town right now. I have extensive management experience. I even had my own lil pizza place for 3 years. I'm just kinda getting back into working for other companies, being I just lost a eviction lawsuit, to where the landlord was able to keep 40k worth of my restaurant equipment, for past due rent. UGH!!! It's a long story.

But if you know of any places hiring, I would appreciate the tips.

I have an update, last night after staring at my engine for like an hour, I finally found the coolant leak that had been eluding me. It was the small hose that connect to the back of the water pump housing. It was dripping and evaporating on the engine. I have fixed it and so far the coolant level hasn't dropped at all. :o)

That's good to hear, Gnome, sorry about your losses. I can tell you that none of the major airlines are hiring right now, that should help you whittle down the list, lol...

Glad you fixed the leek! Sorry to hear of your loss
I'd invite you here but jobs are hard if you don't have good computer experience. I'm very lucky to have a job with the little experience i have!

Well, you now have experience tearing apart the front of a rotary engine, see if the local Mazda dealer needs any help

I can still file an appeal, I just don't have the loot for a lawyer. I was providing my own defense for the past year. And learning law as I went, wasn't too enjoyable.

Well, at least you weren't learning law like most people that all of a sudden have to decipher it...from a jail cell

Man, I hardly ever post on those things, I mean, you really want someone else making up your mind for you? I like blue, and whenever I get around to getting mine redone from the "Mazda blue" that's on her, I'm going with Dodge color code PBT- the dark blue metallic you see on their new trucks. Yellow just doesn't do it for an rx-7, IMO, but looks good on a Vette...

Well, I just did what I said I wasn't going to do- do you still want me to post on yours now?, lol...
