That was one of the supposed cleaning methods that people have tried. Personally I'm not too keen on putting ATF, Seafoam, or water into my engine to "clean" it. I'm awaiting proof that it works.

Personally, I won't touch the stuff every again, for any of my vehicles.
I know my reasoning is purely coincidental, but I figure I will explain before I tell my tale.
I just rolled 167k on my OE engine. I drove 15 miles into town and grabbed a couple quarts of Royal Purple for a drain and fill on my 5-sp tranny. I needed gas and while at the parts store decided to grab a bottle of Seafoam to add to the tank. I filled up and drove home. The last two launches from stop signs, the car ran amazing (first sign the engine was going). I couldn't believe the power it had 2 miles before I got home.
After I lifted the car on the hoist, I drained and filled and checked everything else out, routine visual inspection underneath while it was up there. I lowered it down and decided to take another little spin. I drove 3/4 mile down the road to the corner and turned around. I began to drive home, slowly too, less than 2500 rpm shifts. I hit 50 in 5th gear, 2k rpm roughly and all of sudden she shuttered and then stalled. I cranked and cranked it and finally got it running but really shitty. When I got home, I grabbed the compression tester (not rotary tester, piston style). Front rotor had what appeared to be good compression and rear was at 0 psi.
Needless to say, I like to blame the Seafoam for taking out my engine, gives me a scapegoat.

That is a good coincidence... but I seriously doubt engine cleaner would blow your motor.
I'd try the water method... as marlaman posted the link to kevin landers' site... he (kevin) says that water treatment DOES help (as he's seen from tearing down motors) so he's a pretty smart ****... I'll take his word on it.
Just to state this incase some noob doesnt know... rotaries don't hydralock like piston engines do...
If ya clean your motor (with whatever you use... seafoam, water, whatever) get some engine degreaser (i think its alcohol based) and pour some of that in your engine and idle for 15 minutes... drain your oil. Good to just clean both at the same time, your MOP injectors would probably like that too Mine were pretty nasty when I took them out.

The same thing happened to my friends TII.It had 199k on the motor and the back of the seafoam bottle said it will increase vacume. We put some inn friday night, and on sunday he went to ney york and the motor blew up there.I know the miles were a little high but the car ran beautifully for 199k on a TURBO engine.

1.3L is not that small
how many miles on your car? those two stories had very high mileage on them hence probably a very large build up of carbon... knocking that much carbon loose will take a seal.... now if your engine doesnt have that many miles on it its highly doubtful that there is a whole lot of carbon to break loose... if you do have high mileage... maybe you should do some kind of cleaning method with the spark plugs out and hand cranking it over... that might push a possible big chunk of carbon out of the motor... its a wild shot... anybody have any ideas or second mine?

eh then i prolly wouldnt do it unless you have owned the car the whole lifetime of the car... like many people say lots of people here buy cars used from an owner that never redlined it creating alot of buildup of carbon... then when the new owner redlines it even a few times it knocks all the carbon off and takes a seal.... redline a day keeps the carbon away

for those out there that supposebly seafoam killed there motor is a crock of crap needless to say i bought 2 cans of that stuff put it in my oil and fuel then ran it directly threw the motor after i let it idle and revved it for about 30 min i drained the oil replaced with new oil and filter and changed sparkplugs since then the car has been running like a champ before i did it i had about 86 psi in each rotor did a compression check the other day and igot 92 so im very pleased with the stuff.

yes tweak... how many miles are on your car?... do you redline it alot? maybe you didnt have much carbon in there to begin with ... sounds logical right? maybe these guys motors werent exactly like yours... now that sounds logical... sure they may be full of crap but do you or i know that... they made a logical assumption about their motor blowing and based on the theory of carbon becoming loose and taking a seal it was a very logical guess... dont just mouth off cause you have had one good exp with the stuff.... it takes several cars with several different types of wear and tear to determine if a product is safe or not
