Sat for 3 months

Hey everyone my 88 sat for 3 months before I bought and I just started it up. This might be a stupid question but should it smell and sound like a lawn mower.....I figure its just because its been sitting but could be wrong. I ran it for 15 minutes. I figured I would give it an oil change anything else you guys and girls can suggest.

A blown motor will usually sound like a lawn mower, rotaries will stink, especially with open exhaust, but they will smell 10 times as rich with a blown engine...if your only running off on rotor, thats alot of unburnt fuel!!! I'd get out the compression tester and check it, make sure to remove the check valve. Look for consistency in the bounces you get on each rotor. If you have low numbers, you can try some atf and/or MMO in the spark plugs holes, let it sit for a bit with that in there....you might have a stuck seal.

Hows it idle by the way? Whats the engines power feel like? Give as much info as you can and you'll get the best feedback.

Well other then the smell of gas it runs great it has great response and doesnt seem like anything out of the ordinary........The lawn mower sound seem like its just an exhaust leak but I'm not sure now. Car has 95k on it but still runs strong just been sitting awhile.

well, then your engine is not blown!!! 95k isn't a lot of miles. if you take good car of it, it should last into the 200xxx's or beyond.

I would just do a full tune up - oil change, new plugs, new air and fuel filter, etc... it wouldn't hurt to replace that old exhaust system either(with performance, or just new OEM system), since the cats are probably getting clogged.

have fun.

Does it happen to have an aftermarket exhaust? Any header will make is sound much more like a weedeater. And an exhaust leak will do the same.
