Safe mods on a TII

just want an opinion or two. On whether or not you think it's safe for me to run these mods. I have an Apexi N1 exhaust and will soon be adding the HKS Super Flow intake. and for sure i have a vacuum leak. I'm worried about running too lean. What do you guys think? Is it safe for a DP also or should i get fuel pump and fuel management? Thanks guys.

A fuel pump and FCD would be the next thing to add to the list, followed by an AFC and 720's. But the last two I would consider optional, but needed whne the funds allow.

I'm running the same setup, and and AFC is in my near future.

I have a 87 TII with a street ported engine, rb turbo back, fcd, and cone filter with stock injectors and still haven't got close to running lean according to my nb A/FR guage. Waiting on a wb to be exact before I do anything else. An upgraded fuel system is in the near future along with possibly the rtek 2.0.

Fix your vacuum leak first and foremost! After that, get a new fuel filter if you haven't done so recently... then send your injectors to get cleaned and balanced. When you have done that, get the Walbro (and also rewire your fuel pump) and continue with whatever mods get you to under 10psi boost on the stock turbo/motor. Any more than that and I would suggest getting a front mount intercooler, and either the RTEK 1.7 with 720 secondaries, or stand-alone EMS with whatever injector combo.

If you want safe, you want to avoid foam filters like the HKS. Get a different one.

On my car I was able to run safe boost with a 2.5" exhaust, DP, 2" mid pipe, silencer, flowmaster 50 series muffler, stock intake and FCD. I swapped the midpipe for a 2.5" edelbrock muffler (straight through 12" length) and intake filter (stock TID) and I'm actually safer (less boost at low RPMs when only primary injectors are working).

hypothermix79: Your setup actually sounds pretty dangerous, what boost are you hitting? A/F gauges on stock O2 sensors have very poor resolution, so you're only going to be able to tell if your ungodly lean. I know someone who had very similar mods, but also a S-AFC and nuked his engine recently...

best piece of advice yet! Number one rule is take care of the problems first before upgrading your car. Once you do that then take care of the normal maintanance stuff and then go mod it! If you are just going to want to run 9 to 10psi of boost you don't have to worry about 720's. You do however need to get a walbro fuel pump along with fuel pump rewire. The fuel pump rewire aloud me to see over 40psi of fuel where before I was only getting 40psi even when I was boosting. This was simply the best mod I've done yet! Also if you only want to boost to 9 or 10psi you can keep your stock intercooler but over most would say 11 to 12psi you will need a front mounted one. The rtek chip is very good and very cheap! www.pocketlogger.com if you read the description of what it does it is well worth every penny. You are going to want some sort of safc to tune your car with because with a walbro you are going to be running really rich however if you get 720cc secondaries and a larger fuel pump the rtek 1.7 chip actally tunes your car for the 720's so you don't need the safc so it may be cheaper just to get the 720's and not the safc.

The Rtek
gets rid of the 3000 rpm Idle + Safe mod
Brings on the secondarys sooner + Safe mod
Retards ignition under boost + Safe mod
performs function of FCD + Safe mod

Depending on your mods and HP goals a walbro may be overkill. A walbro with a stock turbo is overkill and will overpower your stock FPR. A FD fuel pump is plug and play, cheap and wont get you 14mpg. Been there done both.
