S5 vert dash in s4 vert.

has anyone done this?? I just like the look of the s5 vert cluster and sorroundings, they look much neater and more modern. Just wanted to know if anyone has done this.

Do you mean the steering column, and dash/gauge surround from the 90-91 vert, into a 88 vert??

Other than minor plastic, the 88 and 89 verts dashs were identical.

as far as the gauge cluster, it just requires re-pinning of the gauge harness to use a S5 gauge set in the S4 cars. I just did a write up of this and archived it. You may wish to search. You may find though, that the smaller gauges of the S5 model, not nearly as nice to see quickly when driving as the larger S4 gauges.

I dont really mind the s4 guage cluster, but I really wanted the s5 vert sorround. The thing that mines rattle, so thats why I wanted to change the complete dash. cus all the pieces where the sourround screws on to are broken except a couple.

It would be radically easier to use a 89 vert, or 89-91 coupe surround if you like the S5 look.

But for the flippers moved to stalks and other wiring issues, it would require you to replace the entire dash harness (and probably the front harness as well) and replacement of the CPU and possible other parts.

I doubt the wiring would be a problem as my cruisecontrol is eliminated, but yea I do like how the sorround is on the vert. With the stalks and all that. So thanks for the info.

#1 I think you are mistaking the S5- S4 thing.

Only the SRS (air bag equipped) 90 and 91 verts had the stalk controls.

and because of that, the stalk controls work entirely different than the coupe or 88 (S4) or 89 (S5) vert.

#2 Almost all the control functions for the stalk controls are moved to the CPU. They are not part of the stalk controls as found on most cars. The stalk controls only feed a signal to the CPU, which then routes the appropiate controls to the turn signals and head lights.

The cruise control switch is the least bit of the problem. It is simply moving a couple of pins in the wiper/cruise harness.

But the dash harnesses and front harnesses are way different because of the SRS system and stalk controls.

I doubt that headlights and all of that are controled by the ecu. Cars now a days dont even use the ecu to control lights and what not. Especualy not turning signals. I understand about what you are saying about the srs system. But I doubt it would be that hard to rewire some of the stuff. On my lex I understood the reason why the headlights would be controled by a computer but on old school flip up ligts, there is no reason to. The only reason any equipment onboard a car would be connected to a computer of any kind, would be if that equipment needs to be continualy adjusted. For example on my HID's would auto adjust to the position of the car, if the nose was higher than the rear as in climbing a hill, the lights would point downward and vise versa. It wouldnt make sense for anything other than the engine, auto trans, and other acc like cruise, to be coonected to any type of comp.
