S5 UIM AND S5 LIM on S4 Engine?

Hey guys, was just wondering if it was possible to run the S5 UIM and S5 LIM on my S4 N/A. I did a search but didn't get any diffinitive results. I just want to make sure that the lower intake will bolt up properly and that all of the required sensors would hook up. I have a complete S5 vert that I am using for parts, so I was thinking that everything should just swap right over. I do plan on deleteing the EGR as well and emissions is NOT an issue.

Let me know!

-Vincent.

Its not a 100% bolt on, but pretty easy. I know you need to plug up some non used emissions junk on the intake.

Search again, there was a thread not yesterday that had the links to the writeup on how to do this.

Search VDI swap. You should get plenty of info.

i read up on this, and i forgot where i got it... oh yea hold on...

here is the page you may want to over look(lots of FAQs:

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-faq-fc-494667/

and here is the answer to your question:

http://homepage.mac.com/carldavis/intake.html

comes with instructions too!! good luck man, i almost did the swap, but many other fabrications came in the picture that i decided it wasnt worth it. "it is" but not to me...

fc3spro.com has by far the best write up i have ever seen, i am currently just about to do this same swap on my car. this guy took plenty of time to explain and take pictures of every step and the components needed to run a nice s5 intake on ur s4 block.
cheers!

I just posted on this yesterday, but here anyway:
http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...i=63&co=1&vi=1

Search thread titles for "S5 UIM" or "S5 manifold." There a lot of them, but the two writeups listed in this thread are what I used to do mine.

Well after talking with some pros on this issue, I have decided not to do the swap and just sell all of my S5 stuff(except for the engine itself). Instead, I ordered the pineapple racing sleeves for my 5th and 6th ports and I will use them on my current manifolds. I will also be installing them open all of the time since my car will primarily be a track car.

Later,
Vincent

i came to the conclusion i came to was to run the S5 upper intake with the VDI and the S4 lower that has the ports and hard lines to run the 5th and 6th off the split air tube. then cause i have no cats i run a corksport header into a racing beat presilener with the split air tube hook up on the side, then out the duels. use a RPM switch for the VDI and have the best of both without all the mess. no, air pump, no acv, double pulley and yoohoo belt.

Well because my car will be primarily a track car, I probably won't see anything below 3,800 rpm's...lol. But I think for a street car a VDI swap is a great idea. It kind of works like T-VIS on a Toyota does or the intake shutter system on a new Mustang...

The link rotaryrocket88 posted is the one I used. From personal experience, DO NOT keep the s4 LIM. It is a monumental PITA to to adapt it to work. I involves grinding away part of the S5 extension manifold for the back nut to fit. This is hard and easy to screw up (I drilled 2 holes in the manifold) not to mention is is basically impossible to get the nut properly tightened.
It doesn't really add any power, either. The only real advantage is that the aux ports can still use the stock system, but that's not as good as it sounds. Unless the system is totally stock and in excellent condition (this includes the exhaust being stock) then it probably isn't opening at the right time. Even with the RB header/presilencer mine was opening at almost 6k RPM. Just bite the bullet and rig up the lumbar pump to run them. You will already have to do it to run the VDI, so its just another of the same. I personally chose that method as it seems like the easiest to do. I actually wrote the writeup for the air actuation on that link posted above, as well.

Edit: just registered it will be a track car. In that case, wire open the aux ports, but you should still have the air activation for the VDI. It doesn't open until 5.5k RPM, which will be useful on the track.

where you using the little pipe that comes off the rb header, or the rb presilencer with the oem split air pipe that goes to the lim?

??? anyone? i've heard of of people having problems getting them to open on time when running the little tube that comes off the header. but i haven't heard of anyone reusing the split air pipe with the RB presilecer that has the tube hook-up and running the vac lines like you would stock on a S4

I did the swap and it's great. You can feel a noticeable power increase above 4,000 and it looks better. It was a lot of work true but I don't mind that.

I plan on using the stock pipe and just having it welded onto one of the RB's exhaust pipes...either that or wiring the 6 ports closed...
