Cool S5 UIM on an S4

Ok, I`ve been searching for almost an hour but have had no luck finding what I need. I remember a post/write up by I think it was Icemark showing in detail installation of a S5 UIM onto a S4 LIM. The were photos even showing how the S5 upper had to be ground and drilled so it would fit on the S4 lower.Anybody no where I can find that post. Its after 1AM so I`m a little punchy.
Thanks in advance!

all i did was elongate the outer and 2 forward bolts holes in towards the manifold, you can see easily how much material needs to be taken off by simply placing an S4 UIM gasket over the mounting face. i used a dremel with a small sanding wheel, took about 10 minutes to get it to fit perfectly.

Thanks Karak! I guess what I also really wanted was to be able to review the write-up but most importantly I wanted to see the series of photos. DO you (or anyone for that matter) know where to find that writ-up I ask about originally?

Are you talking about this site? http://homepage.mac.com/carldavis/intake.html

Its for a s5 lim and uim swap onto a s4 engine.
If you are just looking for a s5 uim swap onto a s4, wait a few days. I am doing it right now and should be done by this weekend. I will do a full write up with pictures.

Kungfuroy,

Thanks for the input! I have the page bookmarked for the complete S5 upper and lower swap. However What I`m preparing to do is the S5 upper onto the s4 lower,
same as yourself. your pics and writeup will be GREATLY anticipated and appreciated.

theagavejazz,

The S5 upper flows better than the S4 upper.
The S4 lower flows better than the S5 lower.
As far as power I doubt its as much as the claim in Kungfuroy`s link but what the hell,
I`ve got all the parts laying around including the S5 fuel rails so I figured I might as well!

so the best combo is S4 LIM with S5 UIM? I'm gonna look into how much work is needed, my S4 is being rebuilt starting next week so it should be easier that way.

Yep, based on what I`ve read here on the forum the S5 UIM on the S4 LIM is the better combo. Make sure you have the S5 fuel rails if not I believe you will have to reverse one of the S4 rails to get it to fit. Be sue to replace the Pulsation Damper if you keep the S4 rail. The S5 rail has the Damper built into it but from what I`ve read the S5 one is much less prone to leaking compaired to the S4 one.

has someone actually prooved to even the slightest quantitative (i.e take to dyno) degree that the S4 LIM is better than the S5 LIM? because to me right now it's another one of the forum's "oh yeah, i read it here so it must be right" topics.

as for the thread starter, post any specific questions you have and i will try to answer.
it's almost 4AM here and I AM VERY PUNCHY.

Coldfire, I Think the post I read concerning the S4 LIM flowing better was by Icemark.
If it was maybe he will chime in or better yet, if he remembers the post I`m speaking of but unable to locate, he will direct us to it. I was especially interested in the photos in that post. I`ve tried searching for S5 to S4 intake swaps in combination of words or phrases I can think of but still can`t find that post myself

the S4 LIM doesn't flow better it just has longer runners than the S5 LIM, a combination of S4 lower and S5 upper intake moves the power band up but nets more overall horsepower increase.

i did this as a single upgrade so i could tell the difference, it wasn't a huge difference but it was noticable. IMO it isn't something that should require a writeup but what the hell, i'm sure someone will post pics or if i have mine off again in the near future i will take a few.

longer runners? i think you mean shorter runners...longer runners will effectively lower the power band, not move it up.

I dont think you will notice any differance in power with using the s5 LIM or the S4 LIM

S5 Intake with cone filter (CAI better) and high flow exhaust really opens up the power in the engine. This intake was the last thing i put on my engine after the filter and exhaust. Gave me alot more power from 5000rpm + . Power band ended just after 7500 rpm. On some days I could feel the power till 8000 rpm. That was rare though. I have yet to figure out how my engine got power to 8k.

There are 2 threads on TeamFC telling you about the swap and some of the problems you can run into.

Untill someone does a flow test of the 2 lims. Lets not say one flow better then the other. Because all that grinding and drilling to me is a waste of time, plus it makes for a ugly eye sore.

I have a complete S5 intake i took of my core last night. I have yet to see if the port rods or actuators work. It will be up for sale if everything works though.

yes, please let us know when the write-up is done.
there is already a writeup. If your doing one for the s4 lim and s5 uim, well, its kinda to easy and self explainatory when putting the 2 together.
