S5 Turbo Upgrade/Rebuild

I feel like I am going crazy!

I am in the process of doing a NA to TII engine. The recipient car is a 1987 NA, and the donor car was a 87TII, but the block is a S5 with a S5 turbo. It has the S4 oil metering pump, front cover, UIM/LIM, ECU, wiring harness (spilced to acomdate S5 injectors), S4 throttle body.

I have read about 100 posts about turbos am I am more confused now, or at least it seems that way. My goal is to obtain about 300-325 RWHP.

I am having the stock turbo rebuilt and ceramic coated. I would like to know what I would need to do to upgarde the turbo itself (what sizes). I have read posts about Bryan at BNRSupercars, but the website is down.

I also need to find some shop, or someone to port my wastegate. There are no shops in my area who have experince with turbos or their upgarding.

Please help if you can.

Go to rx7store.net

http://66.216.67.51/subcatmfgprod.asp?0=220&1=364&2=-1

Under the turbos section, they sell the BNR turbo upgrade kits.... Upgraded compressors with trimmed turbines AND ported wastegates... (so don't worry about porting your wastegate) its pretty much a bolt on kit. Just make sure you order and S5 kit for your S5 block

Ceramic coating your turbo will be pretty much in vain, cause you aint gonna use it. but you might get more for it on ebay that way.

You do realize that you are going to have to get some fuel control when you do this right???

I have an 88, i'm going to be ordering the s4 stage three kit with the 360 thrust package very soon.

PS.... what a freaking frankenstien car... a N/A to turbo swap, with an s5 motor and turbo with s4 parts slapped on it... yeeesh

Heh.. sounds like my car. S5 GTU with a S4 block and rotors/e-shaft/omp/LIM... everything else is S5 (all the intake and such)

I REALLY don't see a reason for ceramic coating the stock turbo... but as "YearsOfDecay" said.. if and when you sell it, that'll get you "brownie points" to get more dough for it.

Good luck on your swap! I'm going to attempt mine in the summer, BUT WITH ALL S5 STUFF THIS TIME

Stock Turbo Upgrade

Thanx for the thread. They cost a little more than I expected. I have purchased a RB 2.5" downpipe and a walbro 255 lph fuel pump.

Near future purchases are as follows.

Breddy Profec B Boost Controller
FCD
Turbo Timer

What else would I need?

It will take you a descent amount of money and mods done properly to obtain 300-325 hp!.
For instance take a look at my setup I haven't reached 400Hp yet! that gives you an idea how much work money and dedication to makes real power reliably. There are plenty of people who have and are doing it.

If I had to suggest a turbo setup for you, If you have the money do the following things;
Stand alone fuel managemetn of some kind $700-$3000
T04 ~$600-$2000
Turbo manifold ~$250-$500
Waste Gate ~$180-$900
Good FMIC ~$500-$2500
Blow Off Valve ~$170-$350
Engine Porting/rebuild ~$400-$3000
Upgraded injectors ~$180-$300
mistelanious things ~$250-$1000

big difference between 300 and 400 hp.

300 is Alot, 400 is entering the supercar range.

Big diff imo
