S5 Tranny

Looking for an answer to my issue. I recently had my 89 vert engine rebuilt, while in the care of the builder I had him install another manual 5 speed transmission he had as mine had some shifting issues. The transmission now shifts much better in all gears except fifth. I plan on replacing the synchro and have received the part from Ray Crowe already. My question is that with this transmission installed my shifter sits just an inch or so forward than before. Not a big deal just strains the leather boot a tad. I have searched extensively for a reason on why the shifter sits further forward. I have looked at it and its seems to match all the pictures of the s5 tranny. My main concern is that I have the proper syncronizer when I break the gearbox open. If anyone has an idea I would appreciate it. Thx

All FCs have the same shifter location. Maybe there is something funny with the engine or transmission mounting situation? Stock mounts and everything bolted up correctly?

Yes the rear mount is stock and looks fine. I think someone at some time maybe did some work to the shift lever arm and maybe used an older on that is shorter. Will take pictures when its out and see if anyone can identify the problem.

Here is some pictures . It does not have the smooth case like the fb, and it does have the y style bracket that I thought was specific to the s5 tailhousing. Maybe you can tell more from the pics.

lets go with the obvious guys.... it doesnt have 5th gear! if you messed your syncro up that would cause it to be in another location, at this point i would be more concerned with your tranny as a a whole rather than just the fifth gear. The two trannys i've had go bad with your shifting location problem were syncros going bad and losing metal and i knew which they were cause those were the gears that shifted into abnormal places.
