S5 TII needs motor - have an S4 TII motor... will it work?

So I picked up an S4 TII parts car this summer with a low-mileage rebuilt motor. I have an S5 TII that needs a rebuild. I was thinking that while I was waiting to save the $$ to rebuild the motor (it's gonna be a while) that I might be able to get the S4TII motor to work in the S5. Would I have to change the ECU, wiring, or anything else? I'd be using just the long block from the S4 and all S5 accessories.

From what I've heard you will have to change the ECU, OMP, harness, etc to S5 ones. It not worth the trouble and I doubt you'll end up saving money.

Just strip down both motors and swap everything from the S5 to the S4. I believe the front cover needs to be switched as well.

I have all the parts, and I'd be doing the work myself =free

What is the OMP?

Can I use the wiring/ECU from the S5?

swap the front cover to s5, along with the waterpump and waterpump housing.
then all the other bolt ons from your current s5 motor to that s4.
do not change the flywheel.

I can use the S4 tranny with it, can't I? It doesn't grind like the S5 tranny and it has a 6 puck clutch and lightweight flywheel

basically you can use the stock s5 wiring harness, use all externals from s5 and you can probably can keep the transmission....

You do not have to change the flywheel and tranny to use the clutch. You just need to use the appropriate series flywheel to match the series motor. You do not have to do anything to the OMP or front cover with the S4 motor if you just bolt the S5 OMP to like the strut tower. The S5 OMP just needs to be plugged into the ECu and the S4 motor will take care of itself.

as well if the injectors on the S4 are before 87, they will be low imp and you will need to use the injectors from the S5. If they are high imp injectors on the S4 motor your good.

The TPS setup from the S5 needs swapped over so just swap the TB its easier.

yeah... uh, dont do that.
omp doesnt exist, and the mop doesnt bolt to a strut tower
and if you are recommend him to hook the mop like that, thats a good way to fry a mop and get random limp mode every 10 minutes or so.

why would you even care what injectors are in the s4 motor? he will swap the s5 **** over anyways from his current motor... or do you recommend him to use the s4 injectors, cut up his perfectly fine s5 harness to put in new pigtails, and hack up the s4 one to steal clips from?

personally, i dont recommend half assed swaps or rebuilds, but i guess some people beg to differ. i like things done right, which is probably why i recommend my way rather than yours.

There is a site that has great info for doing the swap your doing. I cant remember it though. But basically you want to take the S4 t2 shortblock and put everything from the S5 on there besides the flywheel, its really going to be that easy.

Good, I like easy. Besides, it's only a temporary fix so I can have a driveable RX-7. When I have the money for a rebuild, I will get my S5 motor rebuilt and reinstall it. Or maybe better yet, toss it all and build a totally custom motor. We'll see. I have 2 other projects right now so yeah...

yeah, disconnect the 12V from the motor and the motor wont run.
im not sure what motor you are talking about, the 13B or the EMOP
you need electricity to fire the sparkplugs, im sure you dont know that...
and you disconnect the power to the EMOP, guess what, limp mode because that **** aint working

do you even know anything or do you just pretend all the time??? I find it funny how you are pretending to know everything when you dont even know where a brake booster line goes less than a year ago.

Can we get like a tard ban filter on this forum?

work speaks louder then words junior. Have you ever even wired a stand alone? Thought not. If you did you would understand what I am speaking of. But since you have such infinite knowledge maybe you could explain this to everyone. It is quite possible to trick the computer into thinking it's there. Frankly it is allot easier then swapping covers to get by till you get a standalone.

how much work have you done? a crappy budget rebuild? a rattled can engine? and a pink and blue rattle can motor for your boyfriend?

it is an horrible advice to tell him to do that "temporary fix" when he will be using this motor for "a while"

Enough bickering, children. I just need to know how it works. I'm going to be putting the motor in the car within the next two weeks so I'll keep updating. I got the S4 motor out of the donor car yesterday and did other unrelated things today (removed the front subframe).

as stated before, take the s4 short block (with flywheel), and put on the s5 front cover, and all peripherals. you can use the s5 ecu and wiring.

Alright, awesome. Unfortunately I've started back at school so free time is at a premium and I'm also trying to get my MR2 overhauled before winter. Sooooo I don't know how long this will take. I want to get it in the car as soon as possible because right now the motor and tranny are sitting outside under a few layers of plastic sheeting and I'm afraid what will happen if it gets moisture built up.

Alright time to get this thread fired up again. I got the motor out of my car and I've begun swapping accessories over. When I took the exhaust manifold off I noticed it had some small cracks. It wasn't leaking at all when the car was running but will I have to replace the manifold? Also, I am wondering if the S5 intake manifold will bolt right up to the S4 motor without modification. That's it for now!
