S5 Tail help!

Alright I just bought some s5 tail lights. YES I HAVE SEARCHED FOR THE ANSWER FOR THE QUESTION I AM ABOUT TO ASK. I thought the lights were the same but when I got them I noticed they looked bigger then the stock lights I already have. So it makes me think the car is an s4? 91 vert....

What do I need to do to get the lights in there? Drill holes where the bolt is suppose to go through and remove the trunk key?

Also do I have to get a different wiring harness? Or will the light that goes where the license plate is into the new tail light and still work? All help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks

its not because its s4 or s5, its because the convertable lights are smaller then the coupe lights, thats why people who put vert lights on their coupes use spacers. and a 91 is an s5

86-88 s4 89-91 s5

I don't know how but I believe there have been several threads on how to make coupe lights work on a 'vert in the past. In a best case scenario, you'd want true 'vert lights however.

You can install them with some bending of the frame and all, but you cant use your key on the back anymore...

Yeah it looked like it would go in if I took the key area out. I would be fine with that. But I would have to cut the center piece where the license plate goes as well.... If I have to do that is there a good way to do that without messing it up??

if you had a coupe center piece you can probably get it to work- but again no key.

if that cable breaks you aint getting the trunk open

I have to admit the coupe lights look good on the vert, but not being able to get to the trunk would suck.

I have another vert here I am cleaning up to sell and the stupid trunk release dont work, which also means if that dont work AND your fuel door sticks your really screwed!
AND my battery is in the trunk.

So now it makes sense when you said the lights you have are black- I did those tails for 1REVVIN7 like 4-5 years ago I think?
BTW- I have a spare set of S5 VERT tails somewhere in my basement, somewhere in my basement are 4 sets of tails actually, lol

I cant figure it out at all to be honest, would swapping the cable around work if the throttle body is not stripped down?
what if I want to use the S4 OMP rod?

Man that looks really good w/o the key hole. If I ever get a vert I'm doing that.

See I am almost wanting to put them in there without the keyhole. But yeah if that **** sticks I am straight up screwed!

Rob what do you want for the vert lights? I need a set even if they aren't painted and will just sell these ones for 175$ shipped like Revvin did for me.

Nah it was more then likely MY fault I doubt I put in the original thread that it was a vert. So it was my mess up. I honestly did not know that there was a difference in the tail lights. So you're cool haha

I never did see if there was a way to rig a string to run alongside the trunk release cable, or to run ANOTHER cable along side it, like a choke or throttle cable that you can get in a auto parts store.
Figured leave it under the spare tire cover and if the original mazda release ever fails you can use the emergency release?

Let me see what shape these tails are in that are sitting in my basement and get back to you.
what shape are the ones you got from Revvin in?

throw a picture up dude
