It's possible but it's a lot of work. I would recommend going with parts from the same series. Here's a link with info on the swaps:
www.rotaryresurrection.com in the 'tech' section

And I am sure we are all speaking from first hand experience, right?
whatever.....
Anyways, I just got done doing an S5 swap to an S4 car, and I am here to tell you, its NO FRIGGIN FUN!
I cant even begin to list the things I had to change/modify/cuss at.
Stick with your series, you will be alot happier, TRUST ME.

It's not all so bad going from series 4 to series 5. Though you're killing two birds at once with a NA to TII, and the series 5 engine in a series 4. Basically, you have to swap out the front cover, put on the mechanical oil metering pump (or block it off and run premix and say to hell with it) Hook up the s4 tps, swap injectors, and a few other small things and you're good to go.
Edit: err, I just remembered you're doing the TII conversion, even harder then! This is due to the front covers oil return position, it's different between series, which means you have to swap the lines on the turbo as well.

The swap is PAINFULLY simple if you:
Block off the OMP and pre-mix, and dont live in an emissions state.
If you live in an emissions state and are planning to run a mechanical OMP, things get a little stickier. Do you want a list of all the hassles I went through?

It's nothing too difficult!

Go ahead, list them all. I know them, I've done it before. If you knew what you were doing, maybe you wouldn't have such a hard damn time, you incompetent asshat.

Lets see....
For simplicities sake, I ran the S4 UIM and LIM, which means that I had to JB weld the port air vent closed. and I didnt want to have to bend up the OMP
I had to change the front cover, not as easy as it sounds when your motor was rebuilt by Rotary Performance in Dallas, and you cant get the front e-shaft bolt out.
Got to make sure your S5 has the right flywheel, front counterweight.
I ran into a MILLION other little things, probably due to the age of the motor coming out, but I would be more inclined to stay with the same series.
Not to mention that the S5 is a non EGR motor and the S4 is an EGR motor. And the S5 ecu wont go into an S4 car, so the S5 Vac spider is worthless unless you want to re-wire EVERYTHING.

A'PEXi7,
You can do it, but I am gonna have to side with MAZDAMANDA on this one. Its a pain.
But SonicRat has a point. If you are in a non-emissions area, its not as hard.

so i guess its easier to just go from s4 na to s4 t2. is this a popular swap? or do most just leave swapping alone?
i plan on doing this at the end of the summer so.....
but if anything is ther a place to get the engine and all the other stuff, besides the junk yard?
