88GXL in Limp mode?

Well I finally got the 88GXL all together (full rebuild now a s4/s5 hybrid ie rotors, housings, flywheel and counterweight from an s5). Ends up all the brakes and rotors were frozen, which set me back awhile.

I got plates and went to drive it for the 1st time to get an alignment and the car won't accelerate above 2000rpm! It starts to fire very randomly above 2000 in any gear it almost seems like it is bogging and gets very rough. It will start to pull a bit then immediately back off and then surges again -- all happening very quickly and all the time. It won't take any amount of throttle above 2000. I got it to my alignment appt by staying under 2000 and driving in 5th gear. If I put it in neutral and try to hold the throttle steady at 3500 it fluctuates quickly back a forth between 2500 and 3500. It idles very nicely especially for a new rebuild, ie bouncing a bit between 6-800.

Any ideas? I haven't pulled the codes yet.

I don't believe there is a limp mode for the S4 FC.

and you didn't have to use the S5 bearings and E-shaft?

I'd be looking at timing first, confirming that the CAS was aligned properly.

I'd look at TPS second, as you're describing almost EXACTLY what was going on when my TPS was connected to the wrong connector

Icemark, I hope that's not the case everything I've been told/read is that the bearings and eshaft are the same, I only changed the flywheel, rotors, rotor housings and counterweight.

ps now it will only go to 1000 rpm, but idles nicely

S4-S5 E-shafts were the same, so swapping rotors accordingly is ok. As for the bearings I believe they are interchangeable as well..

I pulled the codes and I'm getting a long light, a short light, a long pause then repeats.

Yup. TPS. Check connection and resistance as per FSM.

Thanks to all. A broken wire on the TPS. Soldered it and it runs great.
