Started but not driven? Rotaries need to be driven to help keep the carbon build-up down. Extended periods of idling will actually build up carbon even more. Carbon build-up at that mileage will easily break the 3 piece apex seals if pieces break away from the rotor faces. If your seriously considering buying this car, I would highly recommend you research carbon cleanings on this forum. This will easily add life back in to that engine freeing stuck seals and restoring loss compression and power. It's a very easy and cost effective process. Once you take care of that, perform a compression check and then some routine maintenance (plugs, oil, fuel filter ect).

Look to replace all vac lines and coolant hoses along with tires as they will most likely be dry rot.

Fire it up, test compression and take it for a ride..

Depending on model, T2 or N/A.. but 1k-3k is fair for a n/a and 2k-4k for T2.

what's funny is, a compression kit only cost like 30bucks

you put it in place of the spark plug and crank it basically

if u don't have any experience or seen it or know how it works, i don't recommend trying urself though

does anyone in the bay area know where i can do it cheap? do you think $3500 is overpriced? on kbb the car is at $4500 but i think the cost of new tires and tune up is a factor in a lower price. thanks a lot for the help guys! i appreciate it!

3500 is overpriced for not knowing compression on that motor.

im just going into the rx7 scene so i really dont know much and i dont want to buy a car that will die on me. what would be a fair price for this car with a good compression rate? also would a low compression rate be very noticable, will the idle be very low?

Again with the compression, if it's tested and the results are good, buy it. Read the FAQ, being new, it will have quite a bit of information and will help you with your decisions.

If it had been well maintained and driven regularly I wouldn't hesitate. It's been sitting awfully long and I would be cautious.
