Converting carbed 13b back to fuel injection need help!!!
I have a 88 vert that came carb but had many problems with its setup so i decided that the best course of action would be to switch back to fuel injection so i bought an 89 hardtop for parts. Now the fuel injection system is complete all i need to know is how much trouble would it be to do the job...SOMEONE HELP!!!!

It's actually not that hard if you have a doner like you do. The only problem is you're going to have to do alot to convert it over to an 89 EFI. I think you should actually get an s4 doner for the sheer fact that that the OMP, body wiring, and the such is going to be a pain in the ***.
It all depends on who you know and how much you know. GOod luck! I hope a smarter individual can come in and give you an actual tip.

You need to swap a bunch of stuff to make this work. S4 and S5 EFI is completely different. You will need to swap on the S5 front cover and metering oil pump as the S5 ECU will not run correctly without it (it will go into limp mode).
To make this as painless as possible, I suggest you totally seperate out the ECU harness from the rest of the car. Grab a copy of the wiring diagrams in either the Haynes or Factory Service Manual and then remove all the excess stuff from the S5 harness until you are left with an ECU harness that is "standalone". Set it up so that all you do is give it 12V and ground and plug it into the appropriate engine sensors. You will need to make your own ignition sub-harness.
If you had a S4 donor car, this would be much easier.

Use the factory intake and fuel injectors but make a new harnes like the megasquirt users do. Its pretty simple to keep the distributor(if you are running one with the carb) and add the basic megasquirt system for fuel control only. Try to sell parts off your donor car to pay for the computer if thats possible.

how hard would this be without a donor car? I'm looking at an 87 with a carburetor and might want to convert it back to fuel injection.
If I do, I would probably try to buy a very cheap s4 parts car and use it.
Is it worth it to convert back to stock fuel injection, or should I just keep the carb unless it gives me trouble? I know most people here don't recommend f.i. to carb conversions, but are carbs really that bad? Are they high maintainence or less reliable than fuel injection? I don't want to start another carb vs fi debate, i'm just curious. I don't know much, if anything about carburetors.
