S5 shift ****

yes i searched and im sure this has been asked before but there were like 12 pages of "shift ****" posts and since i can't use S4, S5, or FD i decided to just risk flaming.

anyway, is it possible to use a FD shift **** in my FC, if not would i be able to use an S5 in my S4?? i want a shorter throw, but am getting ready to spend some $$ on my exhaust system[Apexi duals....come on say it with me loud!]

:edit:

plus im tired of trying soooo hard to catch third and its soooo easy for joe and his S5.

A S3 or S4 to use a later series shift **** would require a S5 shifter rod. With the S5 shifter rod, you could put a **** in from a S5, FD or NA/NB (Miata).

Or you could get one from an RX8, they fit on the s5 rod...... if you can get over that it says 6 speed.... than do that..

Just buy a real short shifter from Mazdatrix or HIGGI.

Whell your spending around 600 dollars for the APEXi exhaust that will not give you more than 8-10hp and you can't spend 150 for HIGGI"S shifter that will help you improve your driving?

you got a good point but the apexi cat-back is only step one.......step two and three are a RB header and hi-flo cat.

In my old s4 my shifter was extremely sloppy, i opened it all up and it had 2 loose bolts (2of3) holding it in and no bushing, the rod was just rubbing aginst the metal. Next day I ordered a mazdatrix shortshifter for $200, that was by far the best part I put on the car- if you only buy one thing for a rx-7 let it be that. actual height of the shifter did not change but distance from 1to2,2to3 etc. gears was like cut in half, I was amazed of the improvement. but what would be better if you got a s5 shiftknob and knoblock, then bought that shortshift kit for the s5 and put all that in. Thats what I plan to do in my next 7, I hope the s5 shift rod fits in the transmission I'm pretty sure it does but you should test it out first. took about 15 min to put the shortshifter in.

I didn't notice any difference in S4 and S5 shifters.

i have both an s4 and s5 shifter rod and they both work on an s4 tranny (obviously the s4) the only difference are that with the s5 **** on the s5 shifter it becomes shorter then the s4 with the s4 shifter oh and the s4 and s5 rods have different threads
