s5 to s4 N/a Swap
s5 to s4 N/a Swap
Yeah, i have a question...
just like the name, what would an s4 in an s5 motor swap need?
i found an NA motor i could use(just to get my car running till my real motor comes) and it looks clean, but i cant tell if its an s4 or an s5...
If there is anything that will tell the difference please let me know...
also, what i could need to do the swap(its a full block with belts and everything...)
just let me know.
thanks
chris

you have just zeroed in on the biggest pain in the *** on this entire forum. You need to do a lot of homework, or take my suggestion and DONT try to do this. The easiest thing to do is keep your same model. You will have plenty of headaches if you try.
dude... shut up. seriously.
meatkibble, the swap is easy. just use the manifolds on the motor you have now. you have to change the front cover too for the oil metering pump setup, the s5 needs it plugged in and the s4 is mechanical
the easiest way to tell if its s5 or s4 is to see if it has the "manufactured by mazda under nsu" stamped on the rotor housings. if it does have that and mechanical linkage on the front cover then its s4. if not then its most likely s5.
jolly, please do research before you post.

here is a good example. this is my brothers motor. he built it on accident with one s5 housing and one s4 housing. notice in the middle where there is a flat spot cast in on one housing but not the other. the one thats stamped is s4

A little odd. I've two series four Turbo rotor housings, new from Mazdatrix, on a engine sittiong on my garage floor and they have no stamping there. So????
I'm not saying your right/wrong, it's just that I have these new housings on an engine I built and there's no stamping there. And I KNOW they're Turbo housings.
