Sandblasting a pulley

I want to sandblast my main pulley to paint it.

Will it unbalance it?

Thanks

bead blast. bead blasting doesn't remove any materal...just pounds it till it's pretty.

if your really worried about it, just use corn cob, or walnut shells to blast it. lots cheaper than beads, and won't remove or pit the surface. However, if all you have is sand, i's say go to town, I HIGHLY doubt you'll cause it to out of balance to the point your motor is going to notice.

Its not the motor I am worried about, its the strap.

I just blasted mine yesterday, the only way you could throw the pulleys off balance is if you lead soldered one side of them. It's simply not an issue.

Blast it, chemically strip it, or just wire wheel it. No big deal.

Yeah, the main pulley is not a harmonic balancer or anything. All the balancing is done with the flywheel (Or counterweight if its AT) and the couterweight under the front cover. Go to town...

FYI, every pulley what so ever is balanced on way or another.
