S5 Power Steering

alright, im about to buy a power steering system for my car, It originally had powersteering but the PO (previous owner) removed it. ive heard thay mazda used different variations of powersteering. One that was controlled by the engine speed and the other one that used a CPU. i thought that s4's used the engine speed and s5's used the electrionic version. I have an S5 t2 but im confused on which variation of PS it came with, i thought it came with electronic.. I also want to know where the location would be for the PS CPU so i can determine weather or not the PO removed it or not. i also have the opportunity to by a 91 GXL ps system. will it work on my T2. thanks very much- alex

The 91 Coupe (there was no such thing as a 91 GXL, unless you are in Canada) used engine speed sensing steering.

Only the S4 models with power steering and the 89 GXL and vert, and the 89-91 Turbo had the vehicle speed sensing steering.

Either way, none of the systems were true electric systems... And all power steering equipped RX-7s used power steering computers to control the variable power steering system.

So the 91 GXL computer and pump is not the one you want. You want either a S4 system, or a 89 GXL or 89 Vert, or 89-91 Turbo power steering system.

And this is covered in the standard and options sticky thread at the top of the FC section.

I think that the S4 power steering pump should work (as well as 87-91 Turbo pump).

if you are talking about the ECPS unit, i think that is located on the bottom of the steering column somewhere...but that is applicable on for elec controlled PS vehicles...i didn't think the engine speed sensing PS system had any computer device?
