s5 OMP: what needs to stay connected?
s5 OMP: what needs to stay connected?
I know if the s5 electronic OMP is disonnected the ECU shoots the car into lean mode, but Im wondering...
There are a few parts of the OMP that I can see, the two main ones being the large metal block, with the soket so you can PLUG IN the wiring, and then the black box that is hardwired to the harness (cant disconnect it)
is it jsut the black hardwired box I need? or both pieces. if not is there aything else i can remove from it without negative effects? its pretty bulky to tie up in the e bay. thanks!

You need the whole thing. The ECU tells the stepper motor how far to open and the feedback sensor tells the the ECU how far it has opened. If the two don't match up, the ECU pulls the pin...
Jono,
How did you get to the OMP in your car? I mean, what did you have to take out to get to it? I'm going to replace the OMP in my seven in a few days. as a noob, I'm kinda unsure how to do it, although I've worked on non-rotary engines before. Thanks for all your help.
