S5 Limp mode question

Got a GTUs that goes into limp mode when its accelerated above 4-5k revs. I have already swapped out the OMP, no fix. Cant pull codes either, the engine light just illuminates, goes out and then illuminates again and stays on... Possible fried ECU?

Maybe the solder joints are bad in the idiot light cluster? Try fixing that or checking on it.

Could be your wiring harness or ECU. The FSM gives you a good idea of what the possible problems are and tests to check.
I'm in the same boat as you...my car is in limp mode but I'm waiting on an OMP, should be here this week. With any luck that will fix my problem. Good luck.

My car has the same problem for a year now. I have tried everything above but the idiot light cluster thing, what solder joints go bad, And why would this cause the car to go in to limp mode?

ive heard on a number of occasions that when the OMP goes out it can take the ECU with it. id find an ecu to swap and see if that fixes the problem. also do the continuity and resistance test outlined in the FSM to make sure the OMP is working.

Hay J, have you looked at the plugs yet?

The plugs are usually the "TATTLETALE" of the motor. 50% of the problems from a bad pressure sensor to the O2 sensor, ect. can be traced back to the condition of the plugs.

If you need a new set of eyes, let me know.

If this is your car, I'll race you now.

Try another TPS. That, the OMP, and the AFM are the main culprits with running issues on s5 cars, and the only real ones that'll put you into a limp mode (or similar) function. And of course, an ecu with a bad section, such as OMP control, etc.

Pressure, sensor, o2 sensor, water thermosensor, etc. will throw codes, and give a CEL, but not limp mode.

WHen in absolute doubt about issues like this, find a known working s5 car and swap parts until you find the problem.

You made a premature statement there J.

I think we need a track day here soon.

What changes does the computer make when it shifts into limp mode?

Fuel cut above ~4000 rpm and/or ~ 1/8 throttle and timing cut. The car starts to studder and pop and generally run like ****.
