Question S5 Instrument Cluster Fuel Gauge

Today I pulled my S4 instrument cluster and disconnected the harness, brought it inside, and (After four hours of hardcore search action to gain the knowledge) I re-pinned the black and white harness plugs. I got the new S5 instrument (N/A) cluster in and it is all working properly, except...

I'm not sure my fuel gauge is working. Of course, I won't know for sure until I drive a day or two because I had just filled up on gas last night, but the mystery remains...

I know that on an S5, the fuel gauge remains in the same position whether or not the car is running or not.. Where as the S4 fuel gauge lays to rest when the ignition is off. Now, the car is an S4... An '86 to be exact, so I'm wondering if the fuel gauge is even compatible with the S4 sending unit.

I've searched until my eyes have bled, so now I am doing the responsible thing by creating a thread. You know, because that's what you're supposed to do.. Search first, ask questions later (Are you listening new members?).

On a side note, I wanted to thank the incredible Icemark, who unfortunately is no longer with us, for all he contributed to the community in his lifetime. It is thanks in large part to him that most of us have something to search about in the first place. My heart goes out to his family.
