s5 front end on s4

At the moment I'm debating putting a s5 front end on my s4 project car. I can pick up the front end for cheap and ive always preferred the s5. Just wondering if you guys have any pics of your s4's with the s5 front end?

Old pics from '08. Haven't swapped out the rest of the trim so you can see the difference between the two types.

I have both bumpers and honestly don't know of any difference between the two besides the s5 trim being "solid". Anyone care to explain the differences to me? Sorry to thread jack. At least it relates to your origion question.

Larger brake ducts, different turn signals and center grill. Here's one of an S4 front

Another difference is that the S4 bumper cover has a piece of black rubber weatherstripping separating it from the body; S5 lines up flush with the body.

The s5 also had the embossed "mazda"logo instead of a sticker. Additionally, u can actually find lips for the s5 bumper, and the vast majority of aero is made based on the s5 trim.

Howru:
I see u have the fog lights w/your bumper, howe did u hook them up? I'm perry sure the s4 doesn't have the wiring harness. Also, did u modify the mounts at all? Those things were such a pain to remove, I'm thinking of redesigning the mounts so I can pull them quickly for auto x

Drilled holes in the bumper rebar (easier to swap an s5 in), used the stock mounts and s5 brake ducts , and ran my own wiring.

Yea, its a PITA installing it. FSM (T-61) shows you can pop out the lens by removing the 2 screws on the inside edge and pop open the clip on the outside edge, but haven't tried it on car yet.

^What he said.

I picked up a S5 parts car for almost nothing and raped it of the bumpers, trim, foglights, and taillights. When it comes to time to do all the paint and body work, I'm just going to swap it all over. Just selling all the black interior parts more than paid for the whole car

Hence why I haven't installed any if my s5 parts. still waiting on weather to paint the front bumper and fenders, but its tempting to slap on the red bumper and be rudolf for the holidays, lol

I defiantly agree that it looks alot better with the full trim and both bumpers. I was planning on taking the front bumper from a s5 vert. Would the rear bumper from the vert be compatible with my coupe?

This winter I'm planning on doing an almost complete S4 to S5 exterior conversion on my '88 TII. I say almost because I'm staying with my S4 mirrors and spoiler. It took me a little while, but I collected all the parts I think I'll need. Once I get to it and am done, I plan on doing a build thread on how it went. Including the wiring for fogs and JDM FTP lenses. If it helps at all, here are some pics of all the parts I have so far, not including the JDM FTP lenses and carbon fiber oem style front lip. And the differences between S4 and S5 tail lights.

The only difference between the '88 TII/GTU rear spoiler and the S5 type rear spoiler is the location of the "Mazda" logo. On '88 cars, it's on top where you can see it and it is raised. On '89-91s, it's on the underside and is sunken in. Most people aren't going to notice that your spoiler is an S4.

As for the mirrors, I kinda like the looks of the S4 aero mirrors better myself, though the fact that the S5s are a little larger makes them a little more useful.

I'm in the minority of FC guys who likes the looks of the S4 cars better overall, having owned both of them. The only thing I really don't like is that black rubber weatherstrip gasket around the front bumper that you can't really see on a black car like yours (or mine). It really sticks out on an 10AE.

Yes.

S4 car(built better, thicker metal, lighter, etc.) with the s5 body(looks way sexier) is the way to go

I originally wanted just a carbon fiber front lip, and since they are only made for S5's, I figured I'd just get the bumper. But then I noticed the different trim, so that required all trim pieces and a rear bumper. And once I started piecing everything together, I got the fogs and bumper support with the bumpers, figured why not JDM FTP, and then it snowballed. Now I have a CF TII lip, CF exhaust guards, and CF radiator and sunroof panels on the way. Now I just need a CF hood to complete the look.

Daviddeep, my buddy has a S5 TII and I swear his spoiler had a little more upward tilt/lip to it than my S4. Is it just me, or is that the case? I didn't spend much time looking at it. And I agree with the S4 mirrors looking a little better. The smaller size doesn't bother me because I have little glue on mirrors that eliminate the huge side blind spot.

I guess it's possible there are some slight contour differences. When I still had both cars parked in my driveway, I didn't notice anything obvious, but I didn't study them that closely.

I have noticed that a lot of S5 spoilers tend to split along their leading edges; I know my first one did. Mine developed some hairline cracks that used to get bigger in cold weather, then I found a perfect one and swapped it on. Not sure if the S4s do this too, but I've never seen any.
