s5 clutch fan
I have a vicious squealing on cold start that has left me pointing at the fan. Goes away after a moment, and is nonexistent on warm starts. I have spare clutch fans, but they are all s4, whereas my car is a 91.
Anyone know if a s4 clutch fan will work in a s5?
I've had no luck searching, but if anyone can point me in the right direction...
Thanks.

no smog. ac/ps/alt intact.
I'm 90% sure it's a stuck clutch because it also has a small e-fan on the radiator for some reason(?)
This fc is still new to me and I haven't had much of a chance to learn it's quirks. It's getting its first maintenance from me this weekend.
I have planned for:
Oil change
Belts as needed
Carb tuning/possible rebuild (don't think I mentioned, but it's a s5 bridgeport)
checking transmission/differential fluids
spark plugs as needed
exhaust swap (exhaust drowns stereo/gf hatred)
as well as fixing PO's obvious mistakes:
bare wires in the engine bay
missing antenna (if I can find one in the garage)
oil pressure gauge misbehaving (hopefully it's the gauge!)
diagnose the auto seat belts (or try to find manuals to swap to)
sunroof seal replacement
and whatever else I may find in the process...

If your smog air pump is removed you are missing one of the belts that drives the waterpump/cooling fan. There is now too little contact between the waterpump pulley and the belt. Basically when you start the car and the (cold) fan clutch internal fluid is not evenly distributed, the belt does not have enough grip, so it slips.
You are better off finding this out before hot weather. The same issue will occur when the clutch is hot and is attempting to run the fan at max capacity-the belt slips; problem then is that the waterpump is not turning as fast either, so your engine will over heat.
You need to get either a yoohoo belt, double alternator pulleys (and add a belt) or just put the smog airpump and belt back on.
Good Luck!
BTW, the auto seatbelts have a *LIFETIME* warrenty-Your mazda dealer is required under federal law to fix them. Info in the archives.
And, since you have an S5-the airpump opens the 5/6 ports. Without the ports opening, your top end power will suck. Put the airpump back on, several problems fixed!

Thanks for the information.
I don't think replacing the air pump is an option. At the risk of sounding stupid, where would it go? If I remember the stock location of the air pump correctly, the carb's intake manifold is in the way.
I'll look into the 5th/6th ports when I get home from work to see if/how they're actuated now. What other options should I look into to actuate the ports? The first thing I thought of was an rpm switch.
