S4 turbo to S5 turbo?

i have an 87 T2, and the turbo has some play in it and makes some noise when spooling up. i have been looking for a rebuilt s4 turbo and have had no luck. i found a rebuilt S5 turbo and manifold. will this fit with minor if any mods?

Buy it. The S5 turbo is better and it just bolts right on. Your original oil and coolant lines will work. The only things that won't fit will be the S4 heatshields, but they can be modified to cover the turbine housing at least. You'll also be able to get rid of the twin scroll setup, since the S5 doesn't use it. Cap the vacuum source and you're done.

The S5 turbo with an S5 turbo manifold will bolt right on. When I did my S4 Turbovert swap, upgrade to the S5 turbo was exactly the way I went.

Yep. That's what I used when I built my engine. The S5 design is much better.

You could use the s5 coldside and combine it with the s4 hotside.

Why would you do that? I though the whole point of switching to an S5 turbo was for the better hotside and exhaust manifold?

People have diffrent opinions on that. Maybe keeping the stock twinscroll system is desired.
