S4 Tranny VS S5 Tranny

As far as I know there the n/a trannies are both the same, the reason I'm asking is because I got a shifter from an S4 that I wanna make into a short shifter for my S5 and am just curious if it'll go in without a problem

Well, the trannys are for the most part the same. The S5 is slightly stronger due to increased braceing on the center casing, but aside from that, yes the dimensions are the same. Yes the shifter rod will go in fine, but keep in mind that the threads on the shifter rods are different between the S4 and S4. You wont be able to thread your S5 shift **** onto the S4 rod.

It fits, but the thread pitch is different for S4 shifters than it is for S5 shifters, so your S5 shift **** will not thread onto your S4 shifter, and vice versa.

The S5 also has a slightly different 5th gear ratio, and a reverse gear synchro (which the S4 tranny does not have).

Cool. Yea I knew the gear ratios were slightly different, but I did not know that the S5 had a reverse synchro..
