S4 - for S5 swap

Whats up guy's,

Im new round these parts so if you could direct me to a thread regarding anyone who has swapped a S4 series motor for an S5 in their 86-88 TurboII. My 87 motor has blown a seal and I have an opportunity to get my hands on a 89 TII motor. Do I have to swap everything (ecu, harness, sensors)? Or can I basically drop in the motor and put the mechanical OMP on the S5?

I have been around the rotary's for about 6 years now and this is my first turbo and major engine change. Help!

Feel free to email me direct:

Thanks.. thread very informative but....

But.....

All the threads refer to is a swap from a n/a to a T/A.

I have a turbo already but it is a 87 turbo model and I want to put in a 89 - newer turbo motor in.

QUESTIONS:

1.) Can I use the turbo ECU and harness from my 87 to work with the 89 turbo motor?

2.) I will be putting the intake manifold from the 87 and putting it on the 89, or is that even possible?

3.) Would I be able to use the turbo 87 AFM (air flow meter) with the 89 turbo motor?

You see, I already have a turbo tranny and other things most people would have to consider acquiring when doing a swap from a non-turbo to a turbocharged set-up.

I just need to know what needs to happen in order to swap a 87 turbo motor for a 89 turbo motor.........

thanks for all your help, certainly dont want to **** anyone off when I am so new around here.

The easiest way to go about it I believe is take everything off of your s4 block and place it on your s5 block. LIM, UIM, throttle body, injectors, fuel rails, etc. This is much easier than swapping the wiring. I'm doing the same thing as you are planning to do at this exact moment.

Im planning on installing a S5 block, on my 88 T-II, and I also want to know the same thing as Rxsevensport. If I could still use the S4 wiring harness, and also the S4 ECU. I know that you could interchange parts from my S4 to the 89 block, but I would like to know which parts are specficly interchangeable.....,such as the Airflow meter, Intake, Injectors, fuel rail, etc, etc, etc

the best way to do this swap is to get the harness and the ecu for the 89 and go from there.... i may be doing this swap very soon but for n/a.. ( but not going to use ecu/harness from a s5)

Personally if I was doing that swap, I would use all the S4 hardware (including the S4 front cover and OMP) and the S4 electronics and only use the S5 block and turbo.
