I did it. You have to transfer EVERYTHING from the S4 to the S5 motor. Wiring harness is different, so you have to use all your old stuff. It's really not that difficult of a job. Good luck

I am getting the ecu + harness just need to know if I need anything else that is different from an S4.

This is a non turbo S4 right, that you want to put a non turbo S5 motor in... correct???
If that is the case, then yes, you will want to use the majority of the S4 parts, including the S4 front cover, MOP, ECU, wire harness, etc.
Then you will want to make some minor modifications and add a RPM switch and solenoid switch to control the aux ports and the VDI (so use the S5 intake, but S4 everthing else). You will also need to extend the BAC wiring, and custom bend a MOP rod, but all of that is pretty straight forward.
IMO you do not want to try and modify a S5 wiring harness to work in a S5 car. modifiying the engine to work like a S4 with S5 intake is a much better choice.

Thanks Icemark,
so you figure it would be easier to do that even if I had the S5 ecu and harness? what other parts would cause a problem? Because I may be able to get them too

well if you use the S5 engine harness and ECU then you have to do major harness work, (or just replace all the harnesses and most of the electronics with S5 versions).
So, IMO it is generally easier to just use the S4 harness and ECU and then just replace the S5 front cover and MOP with S4 ones. Again then you need to bend a MOP rod to fit an S5 intake, but that is about the worst of it.

I would like to use the S5 intake to take advantage of the VDI. I am having trouble finding a thread for the VDI and Aux port switches that pertains to my situation.

You'll have to hook it up as if you had a S4 and were adding the VDI intake.
This is the basic swap... which is probably pretty close for you:

The S5 engine into an S4 chasis swap will not entail several of the things mentioned on the "Modifications" page of that writeup list since you will be using a S5 block. Anyway, I believe Icemark got all of the important details above... The easiest way to do this swap is to use: S5 engine block, S5 intake manifold, S4 Front cover, S4 Injectors, S5 Fuel rails, and S4 Oil Metering Pump. Put all together and have fun.
SOIA: If you have any questions feel free to PM me.
the only annoying thing is that the S4 ecu sometimes likes to cut the fuel around 7500-7800. If you want to run the S5 engine to redline (8000 RPM), you'll need to get a reprogrammed ECU.

cuz s5 injectors are a different impedance. Just get your s4 injectors cleaned at Western Turbo in Winnipeg. Like I said before, I would be happy to help you if you need it.

Basically its a lot of work that can be avoided by using the S4 injectors. A good rule of thumb is to ALWAYS get the injectors cleaned and balanced while you have them out of the car.

Just for curiosity's sake, has anyone actually put a S5 engine into a S4 and swapped over everything? I own an S4 and will need an engine shortly and I was planning on ordering a clip from Japan, and the S5's are much more readily available.
The reason why I'm asking is that I can have a friend get his hands on a S5 Power FC and so I'd like to be able to run the S5 harness in the S4 to take advantage of this.
I'd think a clip would have pretty much everything necessary for the conversion. I did a search when it became obvious I wasn't going to find a S5 TII and decided to go with a S4, but didn't have much luck locating it.

You guys must like headaches. My swap was relatively easy. The down side is you don't get any of the advantages of the S5 because you swap everything from the S4 over. So it still looks like an S4, you just have S5 housing/rotors so you do have lighter rotors and a little higher compression.
