Actually, S4 injectors, S5 rails.

You could use S5 injectors, but you would need to have a 87.5 or 88 model engine harness, and then you still would have to change the injector plugs.

On my vert I actually have 88 injectors on my primaries, and 89-91 injectors on my secondaries.

If you want, I can look them over and if I agree with the changes I would host it for you at Mazdamark.com

Aren't the 5th and 6th ports on the S5 opened using the ECU and air pump? So would the S4 ECu even know how to do this? Maybe you can just use the S5 block and rotors along with the intake and just use S4 engine parts to fill in the rest. Unless the S4 ECU can handle all the electronic crap that comes along with the S5 motor. But I could be way off.

If you read the link I posted you would understand, but yes the S5 aux ports and VDI are controlled by the ECU. Their operation on a S4 is by exhaust pressure... and since he has a S4 already... it would be simple to use the exsisting stock S4 system to operate the Aux ports or the air pump, in addition he would need a RPM switch, to control the VDI as the S4 ECU does not have an output at 5200 rpm.

I'm gettin real confused here, so can I some how run the S5 aux ports using the airpump? and not have an RPM switch or S5 ecu?

Rotor housing ---- Aux port ---- actuating rod ---- Actuator

The actuator on the S4 is driven by exhaust pressure.

The actuator on the S5 is electronic.

If you're using the S5 intake on S4 ECU & harness, you can buy an RPM switch from Summit or somewhere and set the actuation to whatever RPM you want (usually 4000).

If you're using the S4 intake and S4 ECU, you'll be using a pipe from the Catalytic converter (or at least the exhaust) to drive the port opening.

If you're using S5 ECU and harness on a S4 car, I hope you like rewiring harnesses. It can be done, but it makes my eyes water.

ok here's the status of the project, I stripped down teh S5 block a put all of the S4 components on it, It's all bolted in and every thing is hooked up............. teh ****** won't start! I got it to sputter a couple of times but it wouldn't keep goin........ so perhaps a list of things to check out to get me started? I've been messing with the timing and not getting any good results. should I perhaps use the S5 CAS? oh and also would the timing marks on the S5 pulley be different than the S4?
thanks,

No, I see this exact swap, and the S4 engine in S5 body. I have seen this several times. Check with Kevin Landers. I think he had a pretty good writeup on this.

Ok well it runs like *** under 2000 RPM and not without my foot on the gas, or else it dies. It starts perfectly on the first try everytime, revs up to 2500-3000 rpm than dies, I can keep it running with my foot on the gas but it pops and sputters like a bitch under 2000 RPM and wants to die. I ended up just using the S5 short block and all the S4 components including the front cover. Can't find any vac leaks, but I have an unexplained exhaust leak that I can't find, I changed the injector seals and checked all connectoins............... WTF???

EGR valve is different. The S5 will have a huge exhuast leak, you have to get/make a block off plate

Forgot to mention that in my earlier posts, the EGR is in a bitch of a place too under the intake manifold.

Has nothing to do with the exhaust manifold. The S4 and S5 blocks have different EGR valves. With the S4 intake and components on the S5 block, there will be an exposed area normally covered by the S5 EGR. This is where the leak is escaping

despite this my car ran/idled fine. I just had a noticeable exhaust leak, so your running problem may be elsewhere. Is your BAC functioning properly?

Actually, the S5 dpesnt even have an EGR valve. You put an S4 LIM on an S5 car. There is an exhaust passage there (what it does I have no idea). Kevin Landers warned be about this happening when you put an S4 LIM on an S5 motor. When I was assembling the motor, I tried to figure out what Kevin had told me, I mean the gaskets are the same, whats the problem? I couldnt see anything, so I just figured Kevin was hitting the sauce a little harder that day.

Boy was I wrong... If you get an inspection mirror, or some way to look at the manifold (lower part above the exhaust manifold), you will see the gap. I had to plug mine up with JB weld.

My fault, I was just trying to give my theory having not seen the complete S5. JB weld worked for you? I tried that and it blew out the first day, ended up making a block off and its worked for almost a year now, knock on wood.

Oh, it didnt work long.. Your blockoff plate would probably be a better solution.

wouldn't the JB weld just fall in the hole anyways and into the engine?
