Question s4 N/A tps adjustment

alright, ive been reading up on this a lot the last day or so and i feel like im out of my element. ive been having an issue on startup where the car starts and dies immediately unless i hold the throttle for a second or two. the car runs really well once it idles on its own, and since i just changed the spark plugs to try and remedy this problem it feels better than ever. so ive decided to move onto the tps as a potential culprit. so a couple things, i tried to adjust the quick idle screw with the multimeter method, and it made me feel clueless honestly, i was getting readings of 1.8 volts d/c at closed throttle and a consistent 4.6 at wot. to be completely honest i dont feel like i was doing it right though, engine was at opp temp when i started but had probably cooled down a decent amount by the time i was done. with the TPS still plugged in, i had the car in accessory, put the positive probe on the green wire of the tps connection, and the black node on the black wire, both done on the connection closest to the actual tps module. when i turned the screw it would vary between 1.6 and 1.9 no matter how much i turned at closed throttle, but at wot it was always 4.6 even if i turned it. eventually i gave up for the night and tried to do more research, but most of the info i read is for TII or s5 fcs, and the information i did get was incredibly inconsistent or foreign to me. does this issue sound like a tps issue even? if so explain the process to me like im a 3rd grader lol, thank you. i know the check bulb exists but ive spent so much on parts recently id like to not have to unless its my last resort

Not to dodge your question, but the car dying on startup does not sound like TPS. It sounds like an issue with your AWS (accelerated warmup system). When you cold start your car, it's supposed to rev to around 3k for 10-15 seconds, then come down to around 1500 and slowly drop to around 800 as the car warms up. A lot of people delete this system (myself included) and have to feather the throttle on startup until the car idles on its own.

The AWS has 2 main components: the thermowax on the back of the throttle body, and the coolant temp sensor on the bottom of the rad (driver side, 2 prongs on it).

Make sure that coolant sensor is plugged in. If it is, it's likely an issue with your thermowax.

This isn't to say your TPS doesn't need adjusting/is bad. Things happen. But, the root of your issue doesn't appear to be what you think

mmm ok, I was wondering why that hasn’t been working the last month or so lol, I’ll look into the temp sensor, what would a good solution for the thermowax be if that’s going “bad” I’m not too familiar with it besides knowing that it keeps rpm higher while the engines cold
