S4 N/A - Split Air/Port Air solenoids

On the passengers side of the engine bay, the 2 connectors coming out of the secondary air system. One is the Split air, one is the Port air.

In that area, I have 4 connectors that will match each other, but it seems that 3 are female and one is male, or vise versa. Is there something I'm missing?

This is easy.

One solenoid has a male connector on it and the other a female. So you'll be matching the male with a female on the HARNESS and a female with a male on the HARNESS. No queer arrangements. Just straight fwd coupling.

The wire colors of the plug you need to mate with is shown in the ONLIN AND FREE download of the wiring schematics. Look for the Port Air Solnenoid and the Split Air Solenoid and you'll see the color of the wires in the mating plugs.

I found the plug i needed, it was hiding under the thermostat housing. It seems that I have stretched the main harness in ways that it was not intended to.
The plug I need for this particular situation is now about 5 inches too far apart to reach.
The injector ground under the DC is stretched fully, and I can barely get the secondary injectors plugged in. I feel that I am damaging the plugs or the wires by leaving it plugged the way it is.
Also, the plugs for the EGR and Relief solenoid valves on the vacuum spider are streched a bit too far.

Do you know how to route the engine wire harness? I have tried about 4 different ways, and the last is the best I have come up with.

Sorry,. I don't explain things well online.

But something is screwy here if it's a n/a of the 86 vintage. IF memory serves, the harness routes behind the thermostat area and the alternator area and makes a rearwards turn above the CAS and routes under the solenoid rack back towards the right side of the engine.

The Breakout for the secondary injectors , or branch of the main harness, should be right about at the thermostat area and does not follow the rest of the harness as I just described, but heads straight for the secondary injectors. The Post Air Solenoid and Split Air Solenoid are at that same harness breakout if I remember right.

Yes, something is wrong if you have to stretch to make the secondary wires reach. Mabe not a n/a harness????? Is that possible??????

On my '88 SE, the harness connectors for the ACV's 2 solenoids are right behind the thermostat housing. Bad location. A few years ago, the pressure cap on the t-stat housing started to leak, and the coolant ran down the housing and into the ACV's connectors there, shorted them out, and burnt the wires going to both solenoids, and melted the plastic completely on one of them.

Anything is possible, but I was just looking at my archive of old pictures, and I see that there was slack in my harness line. Here is how I have it now:

-Starting at the passenger side strut tower, the main harness breaks into the engine part.
-Runs right behind the thermostat housing.
-Runs in front, and around, the front "cherry picker" plate.
-Then under the vacuum spider
-Inbetween the ERG and the "2-bolt" support for the DC. (looking from drivers side engine bay, it turns back toward the injectors, left of the oil filler neck, then inbetween ERG and 2-bolt support.
-Then injector ground terminal aft of 2-bolt support.
-Finally I am left with 3 connectors and the end of the harness. Coolant Temp, and 2 injector clips.

Are you saying that these final injector clips are the primary clips?! I have been splitting them around the UIM and trying to reach the secondarys.

This jpg is out of the free online fsm. It's the way I remember things being routed.

What section is that jpg from? I have all the FSM's on my computer. I have the Emissions one printed out and in the garage, all 88 pgs.

I guess that could be a dumb question, is it the electrical section? Thanks for the help.

Here's a truncated view of the harness at the top of the engine. Id DOES NOT show the routing of the harness from the firewall and where it crosses over to the engine.
