s4 gxl brakes...couple questions

ok ill get right to the point.

1. best way to remove rear rotors without an impact screwdriver?
2. the bolt that holds the top part of the braket that the rear caliper is bolted to broke...any ideas on how to extract it in the tight spaces..?? also anyone know of a way to get the axle nut off the rear hub to remove the whole thing so i can extract the broken bolt with the brakes disassembleD?

thanska lot guys..these brakes havent been serviced for atleast 5+ years...

thanksa lot

so far i found out my passenger side caliper is frozen on the outside ..so im looking at new calipers all the wya round and rotors and pads..then ebrake work..god i lvoe older cars ...

also i was looking at napa and stuff for rotors and was wondering if any 5 lug rotors for the rx7 will work or am i ment to get some special ones..?? (as long as thier vented their fine right?)

no they have to have the same ofset as well .. my advice to u is to avoid doing this break job again in the future just get a brmbo break kit .... will save u alot of trouble .. cost u a bit BUT will increse ur vehicles breaking power and belive it or not the lonjevity of ur pads ..... less stress on the rotors and pads means less wear and tear .... bigger breaks means less stress ... so yeah thats what i would do

Go ahead and drill out the phillips screws that hold the rotors on. Drill the head off of them, slide the rotor off, turn what's left of the threads out by hand. Discard the pieces and forget about them. Buy an impact driver. They're cheap and have 1000 uses.

On the axle nut you'll need to use a hammer and punch to push the staked part of the nut back off the axle. Once you open that up a big breaker bar and the proper socket will lossen the nut. Sometimes the parking brake will hold the axle against the rotation of the breaker bar. Sometimes it won't. If it doesn't slide a screwdrive into the cooling veins of the brake disc and let it jam against the caliper to keep the axle from rotating.

Any 5-lug front disc will work. The rears are either vented or solid. You'll need vented. Tirerack sells OE rotors made by Brembo. The price is right and the quality is as good as anything else you'll find.

Not sure on the other bolt you're talking about. The caliper bolts directly to the hub carrier and there should be plenty of room to work there. You'll need a box end wrench. Take a large hammer and smack the wrench to help loosen a frozen bolt.

And there is absolutely no reason to even consider upgrading the stock 4-pot brake package other than to say you did.

ok there is the bracket that the rear caliper bolts to.. it has one bolt and one pivot bolt (that doesnt actually bolt the caliper on) .. ok once the caliper is off there the bracket it was bolted to left thats mounted to the hub. theres 2 bolts holding it on before u can take off the rotor.. the top bolt's head snaped off.that is the bolt im talking about..also are u saying i do not have to use the screws in the rotor? remove them and leave em out?

my car came with the 4 pot cals.. but the passenger sides is frozen...

You've lost me on the rears. There are two bolts that hold the entire caliper to the hub carrier. Remove those two bolts and the entire caliper will slide up and off the rotor. There's no need to disassemble the caliper until you've removed it from the rotor.

Yes, remove the screws that hold the rotor to the hub and throw them in the trash. They are there for ease of assembly only. They serve no purpose really. The wheel does an excellent job of holding the rotor on.

Remove the remaining bolt, take the caliper/bracket off. Then remove the headless stud by whatever means; slot it with dremel then use a flat head screwdriver, or crank on it with vide grips, whatever.
