KY s4 engine to s5 chassis

Ok, so I have a 1987 rx7 se...
But it has serious cancer on basically the whole under body of the car.
And I am sick of dealing with it, as well as the fact that I am wanted to stick with rx-7's and Mazda's for a while.
Now my question is, what are the necessary procedures I must take to swap in a s4 motor into an s5 chassis (if I can't find a clean s4 chassis)?
I have done a search on this forum, as well as google, and have found that the wiring is different, so swapping out the s5 dash with the s4 dash. As well as the fact that some of the pumps are electrical on the s5. And I also know that I will have to run the s4 ecu rather than the s5 ecu because the s4 engine and s5 engine is slightly different
Would it just be a bolt in process? or would I need different engine mounts?
If someone has a link to a detailed procedure on how to do the swap, that'd help out alot since I am a noob at working with cars. But if there isn't a write up, can you guys give me some tips and facts of what is need to be done in order for my s4 engine to work in the s5 chassis? (If you think it'd just be easier to search for an s4 chassis, please say so )
And I forgot to mention that the only reason I want to keep my s4 motor is because the guy that sold it to me has already had the engine rebuilt, and it only has 5k worth of miles on it lol

Another question is, if I did come across a clean s4 chassis, with power steering, could I use the power steering even though mine does not have power steering?

Sounds like you're on the right track, definitely.

As far as the mechanics of swapping the s4 engine into an s5 body, it's pretty much the same. Like you mentioned, different wiring on the harness. Motor mounts are the same, I believe. Everything should fit right in. Coolant hoses might be different, too.

Also for the power steering. I don't see why it wouldn't work in the s5 with an s4 motor.

The wiring harnesses are completely different. You would need to swap over all the s5 electrical parts (omp, front housing, etc.). There'd be no point in swapping out the s5 dash for an s4 dash because the front harness (headlights, etc.) connects to the dash harness as well and that harness connects to the rear harness. They are all different. your best bet is just swap over all the s5 electrical mechanical stuff, and use the s5 harness.

well the harnesses are different but you can use and s5 turbo harness on the s4 turbo 2 but you just going to have extra sensors...racing beat told me that i would need to swap the dashes!! so i dont kno exactly how im going to do so but i kno its going to be a pain!!! im doingthe same thing i have a s5 chassis and doing a s4 turbo swap! um i believe it would be better if you go ahead and by a stand alone because you would have to use the s5 turbo harness anyway! if any thing try to find a decent s4 chassis!!

Just swap over all the s5 motor parts and use the harness. Much simpler and cheaper than buying a standalone ecu

Ive done that swap before. The plugs are mostly all different in the interior harness from the ones connecting to the ecu to the one connecting to the dash harness. Thats why racing beat says swap the dash. If anything you can just use the s4 motor and swap the parts to s5 parts from the front front cover to intake manifold and tps. That way you dont have to mess with the wiring harness when putting the s4 motor in. All the mounts are the same except the trans mount, you'll have to use the s5 mount which will bolt up to either transmission. Alternator and power steering pump are different btween models too. Its a bit tedious of work but when your done its worth it lol.

When i did my swap i swaped everything in the s5 to s4 since i completely stripped the s5 and had all the s4 harnesses and stuff. Hell even the freaking door harnesses had a difference in the plugs between both models. it was def a long project.

It sounds like my best bet is to find a s4 shell...
I know this is a noobish question, but I know the 1986-87 are s4's... What about the 88's?
