All s4 NA engine blocks are the same. Manual or Automatic won't make a difference because that is just the transmission.

You'll need the flywheel to use the manual tranny, though.

As long as the flywheel is of the same series and is non turbo like your car.

If you have a 86-88 non turbo and the engine your going to buy is the same, then use your flywheel off your old car. It matters not if the engine you bought is a automatic as long as the years are the same.

I've no idea what year car you have nor the year of the engine you bought.

I figured this out by looking at the Mazdatrix site AND looking at the free/online parts fische for the series four car. Engine section.

The front counterweight part number is N326-11-D61A and since there is no other front counterweight listed for the aurtomatic, I ASSUME the rear counterweight for the Auto (that is listed in the fische), then to me it follows that the stick flywheel (built in counter weight) will work in place of the auto flywheel/counterweight. Follow? Bottom line.....it'll work.

ok, so i have deduced that the automatic engine is a s4, and my engine is a s4. As my engine has a manual flywheel with the built in counterweight, i cannot use it unless i remove the automatic counterweight.

My plan is just to purchase an aftermarket flywheel without the counterbalance for a 5speed, and put it straight onto the auto counterweight. this will work ??

If you want to install an aftermarket flywheel, you don't need to buy another counterweight. Unbolt the flexplate and bolt on the aftermarket fly in its place.

The counterweight that comes with some aftermarket flywheels is really an automatic trans rear counterweight. If you go straight to the aftermarket flywheel, you don't even have to worry about the dreaded 54mm nut.
