s4 cllutch type lsd into s5 n/a what gear oil?
ok i got an lsd rear from the local junk yard, $200 with both axles. not bad considering people wanted $150 for just the guts no gears on this forum. what fluid do you guys recomend i put into it? i also want to pop off the back cover and take a look inside, is there anything i should look for? metal shavings and such? is there any way to tell if the clutches need to be repacked with the rear out of the car? thanks guys.
No real way to tell if the clutch packs are ok with the LSD not in the car. Any idea how many miles on it? I think you paid entirely too much myself, at my local junkyard I can get a rear end for alot cheaper, and I just sold a S4 LSD rear end for $150 on Ebay, but thats of no concern now I guess. As for the gear oil, just use any GL-5 90W gear oil, and you will need an LSD additive for the it also. Id suggest synthetic, but it can be pricey. I know mazdatrix sells synthetic and a LSD additive:

all the rears on ebay werent lsd, and i didnt want to pay shipping for something that weights well over 60 lbs. also, did you sell your rear with axles? if the rears are so cheap at your local yard why dont you do the rx7 community a service and buy them up and sell them on ebay?

I take the axle stubs that are in the rear end, no point in taking the rear axles themselves since all them are the same (between N/A and turbo anyways) And the N/A rear end in a packaged box weighs approximately 90lbs.
