Question s4, air pump, 5th and 6th port ?

ok car is in sig, i have straight pipe in place of my cat so i know my ports are not working anymore, i know the s5 car use the air pump to open them, so i am just asking if this idea would work........ put a T connector in back of the air pump and route a hose to the back where the split air pipe use to be thefore putting air pressure back into the system...... would this open the ports? and also connect the liitle vacume line to it too.....

basicly i want my ports to work agian and was wondering if this idea would work... if anyone knows a cheap way to do this please post a link. i know this was covered before but i can't find the post via search...

Thanks
-Shawn

You've almost got it. Route a hose from the air pump to the pipe, but put a small adjustable air valve in the pipe somewhere. If your ports are opening too soon or too late, just turn the valve a tad until they open at the correct time (~3800 rpm). There's a write-up with a diagram somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

You could also have a muffler shop weld your stock air return pipe to a spot where the cats used to be.

That's the one! Let us know how it turns out, I haven't actually done this on mine (I had the pipe welded in place and removed the air pump).

It's been hashed over a zillion times, and there's no benefit to wiring open perfectly good ports.

Are you connecting into the airpump line before or after the ACV?

i have mine connected after the acv. i put a little gas line spigot thing into the acv releive hose. that then goes to the 5 and 6 port tube. and i control the back pressure using a few hose clampss on the air pump exhuast hose. it works pretty well just trying to find the optimal opening point.

The way I read it was "I have an S4. I know S5s use the air pump. How can I do the same?"

If you don't have cats, and you're not using the split air pipe to open your ports, then you don't need the split air pipe. You should be able to remove it completely. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the purpose of the pipe was to supply air to the cats, and backpressure for the ports, and yours is doing neither.

Exactly. Remove the ACV, block it off, then run the hose coming out of the air-pump directly into your ball valve/bleed valve, and have the T or hose barb *before* the ball valve for the aux ports and you'll be all set.
